This is a photo thread dedicated to First Legion's first Renaissance range (Battle of Pavia)

It will be interesting to see this range develop.

I don't know to much about this period of history but I sure do like the looks of it. Thanks for sharing the photos they look fantastic. Any suggestions on a good book to read?

Hurraayyy!!!!!! Frank is back!! and once again with some great photos as always, love the color and style of these sets but know very little about them...Sammy

Fantastic pics Frank. These figures look amazing amassed like that. I had the pleasure of seeing many of these figures in the flesh at the Westcoaster, and I was really impressed. Wonderful images of some really striking miniatures. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Frank,
Great pics, thanks to share!
Matt seems vey busy, I don't know if we can expected more sets this year.
Best.
Xavier

Thank you, Frank, for expanding your interest. We all benefit. I enjoyed the photos.

This is a great range, not sure about the depth it will receive with all the new ranges that Matt promises. Obviously, the first release allows for the creation of a pike block and a substantial command group. I would hope for a second release with the French cavalry. I would prefer that over French or Swiss infantry. Artillery would also be attractive .....

Hi Frank. Really great set-up and shot. The figures are superb. -- Al

Not my thing, but those are some nice looking figures... very colorful and well done. Nice photography as well Frank. Thanks for posting.

Why good morning Frank . . . . you've been missed. Very nice photos of a very nice looking historical range. Very colorful indeed . . .
:smile2: Mike

I am hoping to see this range expand as well.
Swiss, Spanish , French and even an Ottoman range would be welcome.
Artillery and cavalry in action!

Thank you all for the kind words.

I'm like most of you. I don't know a lot about this period in history. I wanted to start another range other than WWII and the flamboyant colorful costumes of this range piqued my interest.

As for books. I've started out simple with a few Osprey titles:
Landsknecht Soldier 1486-1560
Pavia 1525, The Climax of the Italian Wars
Pike and Shot Tactics 1590-1660

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the mounted figures and Doppelsöldner, the guy weilding the bidenhander with the flamberge blade. Lot's of possibilities with this range.

Der Doppelsoeldner:

From Wikipedia:

"Landsknechts schooled in the use of the Zweihänder (two-hander), a two-handed sword, were entitled to double pay and thus qualified as Doppelsöldner.[2] The fencing guild of the Brotherhood of St. Mark had the monopoly on the use of the Zweihänder after Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor granted it to them in 1487.

The Zweihänder was allegedly used by the Doppelsöldner to break through formations of pikemen, especially Swiss pikemen, by either being swung to break the ends of the pikes themselves or to knock them aside and attack the pikemen directly. The factuality of this tradition is disputed, but at least as a legend, it appears to date to at least the 17th century."

One of my favorite periods and this range has so many more possibilities. I hope FL will give us an indication of what else is coming out.

Nice collection, Frank. And we'll chosen: the first ranks wore rumor, the further ones not.

I wonder how many figures it takes to really give the impression of a closely set block of pikes.

But your picture gives a good impression.

I don't collect this range and also don't know much about this period of history.... but..... WOW..Really like it.....may have to buy a few of these beautiful figures......well displayed {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}....First Legion....RULES

I am told there will be artillery next year.......and hopefully more infantry and cavalry.
