LOL.That's true but! My wife is English and many a time when she's talking to me. I must have a blank look because she says "you have no idea what I just said". it can be funny at times with my Yankee and her English accent.

Try having a Geordie accent!..^&grin

Asked my wife about the Georgie accent she laughed. Wife's accent as she calls it is proper English. Until she gets excited then the Yorkshire comes out.

She must be a fine lady if she is from Yorkshire !! What area? I am originally from Leeds, and although for the most part I have picked up much of a Canadian accent it comes back lickety split as soon as I talk to another Brit. When I talk to my mum on the phone at work it still makes my co-workers smile even after 12yrs of being there.

Yes she is quite a lady. Puts up with me and my toy soldiers. I'm very lucky. As for southerner I'm glad your southern accent and ours are entirely different. My wife doesn't understand sometimes that people do like her accent. They want to hear her talk. I guess it can be frustrating at times. Now my New Jersey comes out usually when I drive. We have a very colorful language. Thanks and I enjoy all of yous.

I only said that to pull her leg. Yorkshire is a northern county but because they are south of us (north of us is Scotland) we like to wind them up!^&grin

Due to the degenrated condition of our langauge and culture, I can't understand many so-called "Americans" when they speak; except for the South, which accent is a national treasure. The Brits are a welcome relief. ^&grin

One of the biggest problems with the accent over here is the amount of youths that want to sound American! The influance of "music culture".^&grin

For a different type of American Southern, try those who speak Gullah, primarily around the Sea Islands of South Carolina & Georgia. Many know about the Cajuns, but I never knew many outside of certain areas in the South who knew much about the Gullah (also known as Geechee).

Accents are one thing, but the language of texting is a whole different matter to me; at least when I read my students' term papers, I understood what was handed to me. Lately, I've read that many students now are handing in term papers in the language of texting, which is something that I never learned and would need a translation of myself.

I have vacationed in the low country. Yes Geechee is something else. But traveling in the south there many many different accents. Most of these are hard to understand. The French call English a bastard language they should come down here.
