This display is kind of a study in the use of predominantly natural materials from my yard in the construction of a scene/diorama. In this case, I’m trying to simulate a wooded area or an orchard that has been shelled in a Western European setting. Trees and branches are twigs from a ligustrum bush; fallen leaf cover is dried and ground up leaves; dirt is filtered potting soil; and the grass is remnants of some Build a Rama terrain matting.

I’m using John’s excellent Jagdpanther G1 model (GA-01(121)) as a stand-in for a future display with another tank, so you all might see this display again, lol! However, I was encouraged by the results from using natural products and wanted to share 😃

Use of the natural material makes the whole scene more authentic looking.
Well done Tristan 👍🏻

This is my favourite German tank and it looks outstanding on the terrain board. No need to change anything, this is a keeper. Robin.

It looks awesome T Man. Great combination of real material with the build a rama grass. A shame you couldnt use real grass but thats just not going to work…

Tristan,

Well done!! I've been leaning towards using natural scenery myself whenever I can. You made good use of the stuff you found and cut it to scale perfectly.

Awesome setting Tristan !
That’s a vehicle that I missed out on-it’s a beauty
Thanks Mike! That’s too bad you never got a JJD Jagdpanther… John did a fantastic job with this model and the winter variant. It’s got the full interior and everything. I got the one pictured in 2018 and it was one of my first 1/30 scale tanks.

Thanks Jason! And yeah, real grass wouldn’t have worked quite as well and would have just dried out eventually, lol!

Thank you as well, Revwarbuff! It was actually kind of tricky to find the right twigs/branches that would make the scale trees. Originally I was going to use branches from a neighbor’s oak tree, which I’ve used in some other dioramas, but those didn’t have the more spindly looking “branches” I was after. Then last week while trimming some ligustrum bushes in my back yard, I noticed the way those branches looked and had a “eureka” moment!
