A Palm Tree would look good with the Dick Bong's, P-38 . . .

Japanese Sniper in Palm Tree - single figure in palm tree

Does anyone know if the sniper is attached to the tree or, is able to be removed from the tree?

The sniper in the palm tree is one of the more innovative pieces to come along in a while. Very nice. -- Al

The Japanese sniper in the tree reminds of a story an old ex-tankman once told me. He had served in New Guinea with Matilda tanks. I asked him if they were of much use in the jungle there. He replied that they were often called in to remove snipers. I asked did they fire the tank's gun into the palm trees?

He replied no and went on to explain that the infantry would point out the tree suspected of hiding the sniper and then they would reverse up to the tree in the tank and hit the tree hard until the sniper fell out!

Now that is the sort of story that really rings true! I always love talking to old Tankers they tell some very interesting stories about the actions they saw and also about techniques like the one described above. Also this is a very cool loking piece.

If my memory is correct, I believe this exact scene is played out in the movie "Guadalcanal Diary". A Stuart tank knocks a sniper out of a tree by ramming the trunk. -- Al

Indeed Lancer you are correct! Great scene in a Classic Movie

Dave
Indeed, it is a classic. Overlooked now, it is a really good 'men at war' movie that I still really enjoy. Some great and memorable scenes. -- Al

Well - as he was falling - he was heard to say

"There's definitely a nip in the air today"^&grin

Steady lads!

Back to the subject matter. Where is this available?
