For collectors interested in the Anglo-Sudan War John Jenkins announced in Quebec on Saturday October 24th at the Toy Soldiers Club that his new range of figures will be Gordon and the Siege of Khartoum.

I am posting this here because collectors who do not read the Jenkins threads may miss out on this important news.

John will be at the Hobby Bunker in Mass. on Wednesday October 28th from 2 to 8 PM so hopefully we will find out more about this new line.

"Sudan Collectors of the World Unite! You have nothing to lose but your change."

Interesting! But I will wait and see what is offered first before I make any commitment. Perhaps this will force Britains to give us a glimpse of what they have in store regarding the Sudan.

Have no fear Jeff I'm sure that Britain won't let you down.

Hi All!
Just an update...

Richard and I are nailing down just what our first release will be for the 'War along the Nile' series. Plan on seeing news in the January catalog. It looks like it will be a good year for collectors.
Be good and be patient!

Can't I be bad and impatient? :p:D:D:D

This is just the news I have been canvassing, and waiting, for most of this year, so a big thank you to all at WBritains for listening. Can’t wait to see some photo’s of the upcoming range. :)

A very happy Jeff.

Looking forward to both of the manufactures jumping into that time period! Wow! No matte for the Sudan campaign, now there are two. A river gunboat from either one would be very nice!

I am wondering if Britains and JJ will fit together by style/size? I have never done a comparison since they do not do the same time periods yet. It will give us a lot more options for dioramas.

.........doubt they'll be compatible, John's work is usually chunkier and painted in quite a distinctive style. However, variety is the spice of life etc, so you never know it could work out. I'll be very interested to see examples of the new range in the flesh. Some pictures have been posted in links on the JJD board.

You can put me down for one of those;)

Cheers

On the size issue between JJD and Britains: IMO this is a big NO. The two have made figures in the same time period (FIW) and as I write this I have a grenadier from each maker in front of me. The JJD is much larger in every way, height, bulk, equipment, and the mitre cap. They are just NOT compatible in any way you care to measure. The head on the Britain barely reaches the neck on the JJD. It is like putting an older child next to an adult. All that aside, they are both great figures, just not together. Please realize that this is comparison to current matte (JJD) and gloss (Brit.) and does not take into account a matte figure from Britains, which would be larger than (like their Zulu line) than a gloss figure. -- lancer

Matte JJD vs WB

Fraser Highlander (JJD) and 24th Foot (WB)

If WB makes the Sudan in matte and the same size as the matte Zulu range they should work together.

Excellent comparison photos. If Britains does the Sudan range in matte, like their Zulu range, they could go very well indeed with a JJD Sudan range. Now we have some real possibilities but Britains might go gloss to stay with their recent Sudan Camel Corps. We shall see. -- lancer

Having seen (and been presented with) the master of the "Death of Gordon" vignette by John Jenkins today when he visited the museum, and having had the opportunity to see a painted resin master of one of John's new Gordon Highlanders for the soon to be released Sudan range, I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. They are absolutely fantastic. Details of John's plans for the line included a square made of Gordons and Royal Marines with a Naval Brigade Gatling Gun at the corner, Camel Corps . . . and a gunboat!!!:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Here is what Louis is talking about: Gordons, Naval Brigade & gun in a square shown here in 28mm. Now just imagine this in 60 mm by a master like John Jenkins. This is shaping up to be the major toy soldier event of the year. With a Sudan collector of Louis's stature offering his kudos to the series it is off to a very good start indeed.

Firstly I must comment on Louis's brilliant "cunning plan". Create a museum and then have manufacturers turn up and present you with stuff :D:D:D Just joking as I know Louis has contributed greatly to the collecting world.

From the view point of being from England and being a dealer I welcome the new range. When Australians come into my shop and see the Jenkins ranges no prizes for guessing which side I point out are the bad guys !!! :D:D:D Yes you guessed it the Americans, French and Scots. Not trying to start a forum war here but the enemy will be clearer in this series. After all anybody who cuts off a British General's head must be bad.

I think this series will do well and hope MikeMiller has recovered from the shock.

Regards
Brett

Laugh! I nearly bought me own beer!! :D:D:D

But you are right it will do well and those of us (including myself) who have campaigned for nearly a year for someone to produce a matt Sudan range will now have to respond accordingly and get the wallet out!

This ought to look mighty impressive at double the pictured scale. :)

I would agree with all this.
I like WWII and have a lot of it, but I have felt for a while that the Colonial Wars have been forgotten by the new matt manufacturers
That now seems to have been addressed and the AZW and Sudan are now getting their due.
You cannot beat them for colour and dash.
I just hope WB and JJ are compaitble.
It just gives you more options.
Little Legion and Trophy did and are still doing a fantastic job on this era. SO hopefully we will see an equivalent effort from the matt manufacturers.
Maybe FRontline can be coaxed back into this era.

Was wondering if there is an historical precedent for this square containing Naval Bde. and Highlanders sometime during the Sudan campaign of 1884-85. I am guessing so, though wonder if anybody could elaborate on this.
