The Highland attack on the Grenadier Company of Barrell's King's Own Royal Regiment" by David Morier; painted in 1746 for the Duke of Cumberland, reputedly using members of the regiment and highland prisoners as models.

Tom - Thanks so much for posting those photos. Mr. Jenkins is certainly providing collectors some wonderful sets of figures. I'm very pleased to see him doing the Battle of Culloden and that Rangers whaleboat is going to be simply incredible.

I like the peek at the Rangers for the BOS line - my personal fave so far.

JJ does just great figures, the whale boat is just fabulous and the Jacobites really are cool. I just cannot get by the one constant that finally drove me to sell all my sets, those neanderthal facial stylings, it drives me crazy!!!

I agree with your opinion of the faces.I love the sculpting,the painting of the figures is very nice,the numbered LE sets,but those faces get to me too.The latest French sets are pretty good,the indians aren't bad,the ones with the beards are ok,but the last couple of Ranger sets are pretty bad.One reason I didn't buy them.I got rid of a lot of Monongahela sets for that very reason,but I haven't given up on them yet.Jenkins is a very good sculpter,I can't understand why he doesn't correct this.If he did and added a little more animation his figures would surpass all others.

Some of the open mouth figures bothered me for awhile, but these are old school toy soldiers. Not meant to be 100% realism. That is part of the charm for me.

Thanks for the photos & even greater thanks to JJD for the latest models. But (groan), the finances are already quite a bit thin and I fear that Culloden will make them thinner. JJD's Jacobite Rebellion is nearer & dearer to me than for most, as I had ancestors who fought on both sides of that argument. When I visited the battle site in 1973, there was just a great hush over the area. It almost seemed as though Nature had conspired to deaden all sound. It also helped that there were no tacky tourist anythings around, such as we usually take perverse delight in doing in this country. Anyway, I paid my respects to the dead by putting heather on the headstones (something that was said would never grow on the Highlanders' graves). Brought a sprig of it home, where it rests between some of the pages of John Prebble's book, CULLODEN.

To me you are 100% right. I have considered Jenkins wonderful FIW range and checked a lot of photos but faces always put me off. Some are better than other though, as you say. It's this zombie face stuff that I don't like.
