John Keegan (1 Viewer)

A loss for the world of history. I still have my first edition of Face of Battle. I also really enjoyed his Six Armies in Normandy and I also still have a couple of Ballantine PB publications he did back in the 70's, one on the Waffen SS and one on Dien Bien Phu. I quite liked his writing. -- Al

Rest in Peace John Keegan- must read for the Army Combat arm professional- Face of Battle- I believe he also wrote the forwards' in ON COMBAT and ON KILLING. The latter books arent much use to the collector or historians however-

I rememeber buying Keegans book in a bookshop in Edinburgh Scotland while on leave From UNPROFOR (Bosnia).

Don't forget Keegan's "The Price of Admiralty," which covers Trafalgar, Jutland, Midway, and the Battle for the Atlantic. A worthwhile read to add to his aforementioned works.

That is sad news indeed. I remember reading a well-used copy of Face of Battle when I was younger. It was one of the first academic history books my father introduced to me from his office shelves. Since then, I have read a number of Keegan's works and have always been impressed by his scholarship. He was a good writer and an excellent historian.
