Of recent, happened to rewatch a few classic John Wayne movies (to me, they are all classics!). Watched True Grit and Rooster Cogburn, still love those characters. Also Big Jake and The Train Robbers. I think I always loved the Train Robbers most b/c of the actual trains! Anyhow, it is hard not to love Big Jake and the famous "Dog".

Great memories of watching them in childhood and still great memories watching them again! I need to dig out Horse Soldiers, Rio Bravo, Rio Lobo and a few more.

Big Jake was always a favorite of mine. Tremendous cast. I mean, how can you beat JW, O'Hara, Richard Boone, etc.? I'll stop and watch any Wayne film I come across. -- Al

I like Horse Soldiers, War Wagon and The Alamo. Green Berets was good too. I don't think The Longest Day would qualify as a John Wayne movie.

It's The Searchers for me ..... also like The Cowboys with Bruce Dern ..... the ultimate "bad guy"!

Really liked Wayne as Rock Torrey in In Harm's Way, with Kirk Douglas and Patricia O'Neal. Also as Spig Weed in Wings of an Eagle. The Duke could do US Navy along with everything else.:wink2: -- Al

I love most of his movies but I loved Rio Bravo with Wayne,Dean Martin,Walter Brennen and Ricky NelsonThey were great together in this movie.

So many great westerns, so little time. I will go out of my way to watch Red River, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, Stagecoach, El Dorado, the John Ford cavalry trio, Horse Soldiers, The Shootist, Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Big Jake, True Grit, The Alamo, Rio Lobo, McClintock, Hondo, Sons of Katie Elder, War Wagon, Chisum, Comancheros, 3 Godfathers, Train Robbers, The Undefeated, and I know I'm forgetting some. Then there are his non-westerns... -- Al

Horse soldiers is one of my favorites. Always get a thrill during the charge over the bridge. Chris

He made a lot of westerns before Stagecoach. So many and I love them all.I thought "The Searchers"was the most realistic of the westerns.

I need to revisit, The Searchers. I didn't care for it, but I remember UKReb loving that movie.

Ethan Edwards was the outstanding character of Wayne's career. It was an brilliant portrayal of a man in his time and place with a job that had to be done. It is so intense that it hurts. -- Al
