Johnnybach's German SS Band - Glossy version (1 Viewer)

It is confusing the one I recieved from historex was painted but, I know some were released unpainted and are still around.

Thanks for the tip Mitch - but unfortunately, all they have left are painted! I have never seen the point of buying something ready done - 'cos MY hobby is painting - whilst my eyes and hands can still do it, that is!!!

Thanks again though for the thought. - johnnybach

Shame. If I come across an unpainted one I will give you a shout. I have a few mates who have lots of stored unpainted kits in plastic and metal and they may have something which may interest you.

I have just bought the Heydrich and Goering figure 90mm from Historex really looking forward to painting them up during the next few months

Yes it was - I was tempted to get it anyway - but resisted, as I know from past experience that MY pleasure comes from actually making something up.

Yes please - IF you ever come across an unpainted car with passengers - please give me a shout. I have also been looking at some other SS figures on the Fusilier Miniatures website (in Hussars section), They do some castings that I have my eye on, including Goering - once I finish a few more of my stockpiled projects - and the Highland Band - which started me off in this forum.

Martin - which one is you then?

Hi both - Sorry, I forgot my golden rule - and let you know the maker. Yes, these are Asset castings. These are the ones that I THINK could convert to a mounted band. I just need to take courage in hand - and have a go at one. Maybe when I have finished a few projects I have on the boil - and the Highland Band I have had so much help with from other forum members. johnnybach.

Note: I must be more careful with descriptions.

The figures to the front were made up from Asset casting kits of Household Cavalry - Life-Guards in red - Blues & Royals in blue tunics.
.
From front to rear the the mounted figures for both units are: Officer, Kettle-drummer, NCO, Standard Bearer Trumpeter, Farrier, Trooper. Standing figures at both ends are dismounted troopers. All of these are in Review Order. The standing figure at centre is a Trumpeter in State Dress.

The large figures at the back are Corgi - and were given to me, already painted.

The single figure at the rear centre is of a trooper, 1st Life Guards around 1832, bought as a casting from BMSS and painted by me.

I hope that all uniform details etc., are correct - though these were made up before I had the benefit of advice from the forum. In many such cases - I frequently made a "best guess" at some uniform details - many times from fuzzy or tiny photographs and drawings. You should see me when Trooping the Colour is on TV - crayons ready? - begin!!

Hope the above helps anyone who likes them and fancies a go themselves. johnnybach

Thanks for the info. I figured the two at the back were not Asset but forgot to ask who made them. They all look great and I really should have Asset at least ship the officers over here for me to have a go at painting.

Curently I have only touched up the current Britains lifeguards so I am not sure if my painting skills would be up to par.

We will see.........

Hi Scott - I must keep remembering that this forum is all about helping - and was getting too used to being on the receiving end of the help. Asset castings are really well sculpted and a delight to paint. I have found them far easier to paint than many others BECAUSE of the high definition. Do have a go - and be delighted at how they turn out. My tip is to try them one at a time - as you don't get that conveyor belt feeling then. That's how I painted mine. I only ordered them one at a time - so took me 14 months to complete them. If you want advice - just yell.
One small downside is that Anne & Colin (Randall) are not too computer savvy - so you will need to use snail mail. Very nice folks though (aren't we all?).

Best of luck - johnnybach
