A member here is trying to sell the long retired K&C winter tiger ws070 for $350 and still no taker. I would have paid $400 for this tank 4 years ago if I was able to get it back then {sm2}.

Thing is there three or four Ws070 on ebay for $350.00 + and that the problem supply has outstripped demand

It would be consider lucky for the seller now if the piece is sold for original retail price.

Does this mean I can encourage a friend to join the hobby by assuring him that he does not need to go near a shop or pay current prices? Can he really go onto ebay and as long as there are no 'must have pieces' that are newly released, he can party like its 2006?

Yes, you can encourage him. You're not going to find current product at discount prices. Moreover, I think that if you're a newcomer, eBay can be a mistake. Better to concentrate on currently available products and get comfortable with what you want, what you like and gain some knowledge before delving into eBay.

Hmm...I just sold my Winter Tiger on ebay for $550. No issue getting my price on my end.

Hope you kept one for yourself!

I think it depends on the item. Some will sell well but some won't. It's hard to draw a line and say prices are down period.
