K&C 105 vs Frontline 105 (1 Viewer)

I was wondering if I could find any difference in quality (level of detailing, paint quality, size relationship between parts of the object, etc.) between the Frontline German 105mm and the new K&C 10.5cm, so I took both of them and placed them side-by-side under a good light.

The first observation is that the size is distinctly different. The Frontline is 54mm and the K&C is 60mm. The size difference is quite noticeable.

The second thing was detailing. They both have the same quality (in my opinion) with the exception of the devices at the end of the trailing arms for digging in the gun as it recoils. Not being an Army type I am not familiar with all of the terms or names of pieces of equipment. The Frontline gun pieces are solid and do not move. The K&C pieces are on swivels and allow for the gun to be trailed behind a vehicle.

The third thing was the quality of the two crews that came with the pieces. Other than the size difference, the detailing on the Frontline figures is not as good as the K&C. The reason may be that it is easier to detail a larger figure than a smaller one or it may be a time saving measure that time is not spent on detailing the crew as much. I prefer the K&C crew.

Overall I would rate the Frontline a 9 (on a scale of 1 to 10) for 54mm and the K&C a 10. The difference for me was the detailing of the crew. I am very pleased that I have each piece and I would buy each again if given enough money and the need to have more than one of each. I would recommend each to anyone seeking some German artillery pieces.

Perhaps some heavy guns would be nice to have released, like the Britians 155mm "Long Tom." Michael

Hey Michael:

It's nice to see you around still, oh wait, I'll be nice.

I agree with your assessment entirely. Believe it or not, I'm more of a SP and artillery guy myself than a tank guy. There just seems to be too many tanks available in the market place comparatively.

I bought the Frontline 105, 6-7 months ago and well before knowing the Frontline 105 was coming. I'm not sorry I did but the KC crew (I’m crazy, I have three of them) is certainly superior to the Frontline set and not just because of size.

A few weeks ago I told Andy I was looking for the old Britains Flak 88 and 155mm Long Tom. His response wasn't too complimentary about those sets. I was hoping he would say he was going to produce them in the near future but no such luck.

I'll just have to hope and wait like the rest of us they might be coming someday soon. LOL

I'm a arty fan myself. I was wondering how the K & C compared to the Frontline version as I've been thinking of getting one of them - sounds like the K & C is the best. I have the Frontline 5.5" gun and crew which is rather good but the 17 pounder AT gun I have is only average imo.

I also have the early Britains Long Tom (boxed) as well as the later version which is made from resin  The figures are pewter and it is an ok set considereing I got it on eBay a year ago for only about $50. I have about 20 diecast WWII canon in my collection and the best by far is the 1/35 scale diecast 88 mm from Minichamps. I have it set up with some Tamiya figures I painted and it looks great.

I'm also after a larger scale 25 pounder as the Crescent version I've got is to small for 54 mm display, but it's a nice little model considering it was a childs toy.

So what is the best 54-60 mm 25 pounder out of K & C and Britains - and why?

Carlos,

He might not have been too complementary because the Frontline people used to work for him a long time ago and they set up shop without even bothering to tell him so there's a long rivalry there and Andy can correct me but there's not too much love lost there.
