K&C Book on Glossy Figures from 1984-1996 (1 Viewer)

Kevin,

That doesn't mean people won't be interested; I'm sure they will. Just doesn't interest me, plus I really think they need to be around a few more years to be worthy of a treatment.

Brad, no offence. When they are sold before they arrive and there are only 100 max, not sure that I agree.

I for one had not seen the Figarti figures 'properly' and realised that they were much better than I thought, when I did this book. To be honest I did not previously rate them, but look at this........they are best bigger of course.

Having said that, I didn't particularly like the glossy figures either, until I did the book with Louis and Lawrence.

Kevin,

Congrats on a job well done!! Thanks to your photos, I have been inspired to "play" with the troops. Continued success with the books.

All the best,
Lawrence

Kevin,

I'm not sure I would use as a criterion for a book that only a certain number made (due to mold limitations).

There should be a little bit of history before something merits a book in my view.

Lawrence

Thanks, much of it was actually achieved only with help from my wife.

I hope that you feel that there is improvement even on the draft you received, there are photos of the patrol sets in their boxes for example that I found from 2007.

Fitting it all in was the problem.

At the end of the day, it was you and Louis allowing this to happen that made it possible.

Brad

I quite understand your point. We may be at cross purposes however. I enjoy taking photos of the soldiers and vehicles etc and trying to make them as realistic as an amateur like me can.

The recent Figarti sets are just an example of me enjoying my hobby. If I publish a book, then others can see them if they want. This is not a business venture or I am bankrupt.

Thanks to Clive, we were able to complete the run of all the Figarti North Africa sets, to date, in an affordable (possibly) format - so if you are interested in that, great. If not, fine. It is of interest to me so I did it, but only in the context of a wider photoshoot of other pieces not in the book.

Also, you actually encouraged this by posting that I should do a book of my diorama photos in the Bulge or Arnhem threads. Here is one.

The fact is that we were able to do a bit more and give the release dates, set numbers and cost because they are recent. I don't think that makes it a catalogue, it is a photobook, as are the K&C books IMHO.

One thought though, as collectors, when I have popped off and they are (hopefully) very old sets, would the book be worth having then?

Best wishes

Kevin

Aye,
But you were looky...etc.,.... kids of today and all that.

On a more serious note I just received my Kand C glossy book and am very impressed.
Having see most of Louis' and Larry's sets in the flesh, the pictures just serve to show them in their best light in the diorama settings (in the main)
More than that it makes me realise just how much I'm still trying to find.

Camels and lancers, that's what's required. Oh and glossy Naps, Oh yes the skinners horse as well, and what about all the silk road pieces.

God, its depressing.

Highly recommended

Regards
Clive

Dear Louis:

What is the cost of this book???

Thank you, Gary / "Iron Brigade" Wisconsin, USA 1/21/2010.

Thanks for posting the link, Brad. :)

The price is $124 in U.S. dollars, but 64.75 british pounds, which I believe is cheaper. You can order the book in pounds no matter where you are located.

Guys, Kevin tells me that sales on this Volume have been less than 1/3 of sales on the first volume. Anyone who wants one better buy it soon, because if there are no more sales by the end of February, the publisher is pulling the volume. If that happens, its going to be quite a collectors item.

I guess I better get around to it. Are you planning having any at the Symposium?

I don't know how this publisher works but I thought it was one of those things where the book is only made when a person submits an order.

Brad, they do print to order.

Louis is not specifically right about February, but they do remove it from listing at some point, presumably they want server space and thousands of books probably are being put up at any time. Most seem to be high spec photo albums so are one offs.

The other book has had a steady stream of sales every month, the glossy has sold copies in the last three months, as has the Figarti, but there are no sales yet in February of any of them.

I am not encouraging anyone to buy, jsut commented as an aside to Louis they may be collectable if they they disappear.

Then again they may not.;)

Kevin,

Thanks for the info. I had been planning on buying at some point (finances and all that). I don't want to miss out on it, so please give me your honest opionion: do you think I should do it now and not tarry?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Brad, I don't think there is a particular rush, but if nobody gets one, at some point they will pull it. Remember I have never done this before so it is all new to me too.
