K&C Brisbane Dinner and Q&A Session (1 Viewer)

Are you in business class on our money?

Jack,
Not in business class. In fact went via Perth and Singapore which saved $1,700 for four of us (takes about 20/22 hrs but had quality time in Changi airport). However happy to discuss raising my prices so that next time I can fly direct !

No..No...that's OK! Everything is fine!

Would someone please ask Andy if we may see any Paras Brit or American for Normandy? I'm thinking for Merville battery or St Mere Eglise.

Thanks guys

Thanks for that. I was in Peter Nathan's shop today (Weds 4th) and he mentioned that Andy* will be there next week. I shall go along to plead and beg for an Air Vice Marshall Sir Keith Park in the RAF series.

*Apologies for the lack of formality, not knowing Andy myself, yet.

Thanks Rob,
We will do our best. Looks like 66 attending at the moment with about 25 "newbies" (some shady characters as you have probably noted). Also includes a couple from the UK (not a forum member but appears to be quite a long time Britains and K&C collector) and Chris McKenna and KGB (his words not mine).

Jacks wife will be giving a short talk on dio building (but don't tell Jack).

I suspect there will be lots of photos taken of this top secret gathering (not including the K&C and special TF members handshake and foot slapping dance). As you know Howard will provide a good record of the events (that is if he has time after he has asked all of Ludwig's questions{sm4}.

Once things have settled down late next week I will put up a thread with photos I took of K&C HQ and shop last week (and a figure item in nearby Lladro shop that cost about $15,000). 25 cabinets in HQ full of figures. Even got a pic of a very large item that never went into production due to shipping costs.

Have a great time Brett, hope it goes well, that's quite a gathering! Look forward to pics.

I am detecting a possible Kiwi here {sm4}.

Agree on Park as a figure idea. Another good figure would be the Aussie AVM Don Bennett who headed the Pathfinders.

Brett,
Now you know that we madmen will want to see said photos before that! so bring your digital camera into the shop tomorrow as you will be raided as always after sundown....:wink2:
Wayne.

I'm shocked that he is still not using black and white film!

Wayne,

Will do. However will be too small to see the figures.

I was thinking to put images on a disc and have them flipping over on a TV or computer screen during the dinner. Will see if I can sort them from the three cameras we used. No doubt people will be interested to see image of the Bond bulding (named after Alan not James - he was very well known in HK at one time).

A memory stick should do the job, I'll bring one in if you don't have one. And maybe Jack can bring in his laptop tomorrow night?

Looking forward to seeing the pix Brett... I'll be fighting off the cyclo drivers and trying to avoid the "Saigon Cowboys" as I drink the homemade beer from my favourite roadside beer stall in Ho Chi Minh City, but will be making a point of checking regularly so that I see your pix. Think I can guess what that 'very large item' may be :( ... ah well such is life.

cheers

Only a Kiwi at heart, mate. I'm Welsh but I have lived in Sydney for twenty years.

I agree: Don Bennett would be another great choice.

Jules,
The very large item is not the item I know you are thinking about. Your item much smaller {sm4} However it is one you would probably go for (assuming price not an issue - which it would have been due to sheer size). Apart from size and the cost the potential damage during shipping also was a major concern and I have to agree with Andy on this. Will post pic next week as many images to sort out from the trip (including many of the K&C shop SOHK display which is biggest in the shop).

I did see the item you are wishing for but no photos of it (hopefully the fact Andy would not let me photo it is a good sign from your point of view). However price and interest (other than your good self) seem to be the issue. Perhaps you should fly back to Oz via Hong Kong to quench your interest.{sm4}

Enjoy your trip in Vietnam.

Regards
Brett
PS Being a photographer you will now doubt be interested in some of my "failed" photos at night and when very muggy. I am happy with some of my building shots but wont give up my day job.

Thanks Brett. I've started to scratchbuild my own version so I'm looking forward to seeing what Andy has planned. I can understand his hesitation re demand and price, not sure how many other collectors are still awaiting a Pirate Junk and considering the price of a smaller craft such as HK209, I expect the price will be high. May have to make this my last trip for a while and holding back on my new fascination with WW1 aviation... so that I can start saving the pennies.

Blurred, poorly exposed photos mate? Just call it 'art' and a poignant critique of the mans limitations in the digital age... or something like that. You could probably have an exhibition and sell them for big bucks! LOL

Read a great line about Don Bennett after having been inspired to read something of the great man after seeing the recreation of his office at the Caloundra Air Museum which has all of the fittings courtesy of a wonderful donation of material from his widow.

He did not suffer fools gladly, and by his own high estimation of himself, there were many fools.

Priceless!

I guess the first step in my potential new career would be to check what "arty" type grants I can get from Qld or the Arts Council. Somehow dont think I have much chance as I am a middle aged white guy.
