Gentlemen,
I have just finished listening to my tape recorder and transcribing Andy's words. Firstly before I begin may I take this oportunity to thank our hosts in Brisbane, Brett and Gerelou Williams of The Military Workshop for the outstanding Dinner and turn out. This is the fourth one and they are getting bigger and bigger as the years roll on. It was great to meet all my old mates and a whole new bunch of collectors, many of whom are new Treefroggers. It was also great to catch up again with the "Big Dude", Chris McKenna and his better half Sarah (KGB) from the US via New Zealand. "Keep It Silly Dude"
Also a big thanks to my good mate Andy for taking the time to travel Downunder each year to keep us updated. Missed you Helen. One day we will be bigger than Chicago.^&grin
For those of you who have been to a K&C Dinner at shows around the world will know that Andy's Q&A sessions usually last about 30 minutes to an hour. Well this one went for over an hour and half. Aussies collector after a slow start pounded him with questions. I have taken out the usual general type questions and those that have been answered under my other thread "A Quick Fifteen Minutes with Andy"

Lighthorse: Lots of questions on this subject re weathering of LH figures and whats to come. Lots more to come including British arty.

Kokoda Trail: This was the hot topic of the night. Many questions. Andy explained that they had considered Ned Kelly, First Fleet, Gallipoli, Kokoda and the Lighthorse for an Aussie range. The decision to go with the Lighthorse was made because it was one of the greatest Cavalry Charges of modern times. Plus that era of Military history included the British and the New Zealanders. To release another Aussie range whilst K&C have the WW1 Lighthorse and the WW2 EA range was considered a bit too much. But never say never.^&grin^&grin

Naps: The questions on the future was raised and Andy replied that they had concentrated on the NE range but plans for French & British Cavalry were in place. However the Rifle Brigade could be revisited in 2013.

WW1 Arty: Generally consider too big with six horse limber and gun teams plus figures. Andy however mentioned he wished to do more WW1 Armoured Cars in 2013.

Greeks: More to come and also some Persians but not in any great quantity.

French Revolution: Uniforms and the period are great but with NE (1790 to 1801) and NA (1801 to 1815) ranges this like Kokoda may be one subject range too far.

Foreign Legion: Two ideas in mind. Great subject matter. Classic Beau Geste considered the best over the War in Indo-China and Algeria. Might just see the Beau Geste range yet.

Thats just about covers the main questions of the night that may interest collectors worldwide. Any of the guys that were there may wish to raise other points. Please hook in.:smile2: Dinner photos to follow.

Cheers Howard

I must apologize for the title of this thread. It was supposed to read "K&C Brisbane Dinner Report".
If any of the mods can alter I would appreciate.

You forgot the ten year old who asked whether he was going to start a mafia range! The answer was, unsurprisingly, no.

Andy also advised, equally unsurprisingly, that figures are retired as the sales slow down, thus freeing up production space for new figures. The casualty figures are usually the least popular, which means they are retired first. If you want them, you should purchase them first while they are available. Ironically, the less popular figures are then the hardest to get!

Re: uickj

A couple of further bits of information for collectors:

The Crimean Range is alive and well with more to come.

In contrast, the Arnhem range is, at this stage, not being revisited.

Of course, Andy also added 'never say never' but personally, if you are saving your money for Market Garden, I would spend it now on something else.

Yes the 10 year old was a champion, his enthusiasm was only matched by Andys, I doubt he has his hand up to ask questions that much at school. Dad was proud as punch..:)

Crimean is ...my all time favorite KC line. Has to be. I cannot wait.

I am very sorry to hear about Arnhem. I do not think it is going to keep me from buying them however. Rob gave me the bug!!

So where are the pictures?

Re: uickj

One for Obee, Andy mentioned that there will a 25 pounder gun coming both EA and DD with limber and possilbe Morris tractor to tow it. He also asked if we liked the idea of alternate crew commander for the EA version eg: a Brit and Aussie. Of course we said 'YES'.

OD mate,
Please accept my apologizes. I went back thru my note book and their was your question about Zhang Fei which I did ask Andy about. His reply was basically that he not at this stage any particular personalities in mind but the range will be "greatly " expanded in 2013. This was great news to me as well as your good self and it must be old age catching up with me that I missed it in my note book.
The only other reason was that I was I having such a great time. Those Brisbane boys are a real hoot and play hard ball.^&grin

Re: uickj

So Market Garden is finally a bridge too far, very sad, but I have them all and will treasure them. A little opening for TG perhaps. Cheers, Robin.

Howard .. Thank you for the report. From my posts, you can tell that some of us are "chewing on and digesting" each line of said report. I would also thank Andy for sharing these insights with collectors and hope that he's reading this and any feedback arising from.

If its still early in the process, I would ask K&C to re-think visiting the green jackets. NAP fans have seen many manufacturers release the rifles within the recent past. Perhaps, it would be more fruitful for K&C to visit a unit not already done by others.

The success of K&C's NE range should be proof enough of the popularity of a less visited subject/sub-range amongst your NAP collectors.

OD mate,
My pleasure cobber. I understand where you are coming from, but it was only a re-think at this moment. As Andy has admitted the "what Andy wants he produces" line has slightly disappeared due to the economic situation.
He asked me sometime back about two Tanks and which I would like to see. Being a collector I said Tank A but then took off my collectors hat and put on my business hat (being a retailer) I suggested Tank B would sell better. I now know that Tank A will be the one produced. I am very happy but it just goes to show "never say never".^&grin^&grin

Excellent piece of news - one of the best ranges imho, can't wait. {sm3} {sm3} {sm3}

Thanks.

Re: uickj

Howard,

thanks for the de-brief on the talk, and for doing a great job as scribe for the night.

Good news for me is the fothcoming NAP cavalry and more Napoleonic in Egypt.

Also more WW1 artillery, but I do realise the cost and logisitics of a 6 hores gun team and limber...... and where to put it???

Cheers,

John

Re: uickj

I like the idea of a French Foreign Legion; there is already one figure available, the Toys Soldiers France exclusive.

Re Crimea, would that be continued to be done via K& C UK or is K & C taking that over.

Brad mate,
Andy would love to do the Beau Geste era of the Legion but as your probably aware he has many ranges on his plate. Time and space problem.
The Crimea range will be taken over by K&C HK and I presume released to Dealers worldwide.
Cheers Howard
