Why can't I go!!^&grin:wink2:

Anyhoo, with the recent deluge of excellent releases for the Russian Front, RAF, D Day, and all things German, it sounds like this next Chicago is going to be ruddy bloody good as the one and only Mr Alan Partridge would say. I hope any of you guys going have a superb time and can I issue our usual request on behalf of the unfortunates and off world members who can't make it, PLEASE PHOTOGRAPH ALL THINGS K&C FOR US!Thanks in advance guys!{bravo}}

Rob,

You'll be well taken care of although I doubt I will do as good a job as you do at the London Show. However, since I will not have my computer with me, I probably will not be able to post them until I return. I'm sure Warbuff will do a great job though.

Rob, if you got in a little boat and started rowing, you might get to Chicago in time. :)

I have never been, but am actually debating on going. However I face a dilema.......If I fly, I'll have nowhere to put my purchases. If I opt to drive I am looking at 2
straight days of driving {eek3} .......16 + hours but could haul back my loot. Option 3 is stay home and regret not going........:redface2:

For us to cover medical bills we'd be talking a Treefrog tattoo...a BIG tattoo...

Hi PA,

While only you can make this decision, I want to encourage you to bite the bullet and attend the show. I drive two days to get to the show and I have never, ever regretted it. Primarily, I drive in order to bring back the loot I have discovered and acquired at the show. The return trip is always fun as I reflect on the good times I have enjoyed with my fellow collectors, on the wonderful figures I have been able to add to my collection, and the good fortune I have experienced just by being able to attend the show.

A wise collector once told me, "At least once in your lifetime, you must attend this specific show." I followed his advice a few years ago and discovered I had to attend the show many more times than just once. :) I think you will have a similar experience.

Oh! If at all possible, try to attend the Customer Appreciation dinner sponsored by Treefrog, Sierra Toy Soldiers, and Troops in Time. The food is very, very good and the program is most informative. And, most of all, you will enjoy the fellowship with other collectors.

I hope to see you in Schaumberg!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Appreciate the sound advise ! ^&grin

definately, with a show this size it would have to be a car drive to bring back all that loot!!

Without hesitation I can tell you that you will regret not going. That being said, book the trip and arrive early (Thursday AM)! Attend the Treefrog gathering and the K&C dinner. Utilize the floor/room diagram charts and keep notes as you will get lost (hotel layout is a maze) & forget where you have been. I used the iphone and took pictures of the room numbers and added notes. Two years ago my room was flanked by George (Minutemen TS multi-room Base of Operations) & Carlos (desk11desk12) which made for great company & an easy trek to TS cornucopia. Here are some show tips for you addressing your dilemma (the BIG haul)...

*Bring a second suitcase or large duffle bag that you can use as a super carry on bag and or two duffles which still keeps you legal with the one carry on & one personal item air carrier regulations

*Utilize the UPS service on site (Sunday)

*If you are going to blow it out, just buy a one way ticket to Chicago and rent a car for the return trip

It may be too late to get reservations at any hotel near the show, the Hyatt Regency at Schaumberg. Earlier this year, someone, maybe Gary from St. Louis, posted that there was going to be some large convention in the area and that rooms were at a premium. I had already booked mine when I left the Show last September so it wasn't a problem but I did alert people on the Forum, who quickly booked their rooms.

If you're thinking of going, you better look into the room situation. I'm sure adjoining towns have rooms but then you would need to rent a car unless you drive.

Two days driving is a long drive. Talk to Gary. He drives up from St. Louis every year.

If you do go, don't go with the primary motivation of trying to find retired items or you may be disappointed. The first two years I did that and I didn't enjoy it as much as when I decided that I would go just to get together with friends like Louis, Hans Hedrich, Lawrence Lo, Tom Dubel, Brian W(Warbuff26), Shannon and Pete, Andy, Rick Wang, George, Steven Chong (the Vulture) and others who I may see but once a year.

If you do go, you'll have a great time and you won't know which end is up, plus you'll see many great figures that you'll probably never collect but it's good to know are out there.

Here is transportation information. I have already brought this up for air on the Chicago Show section of the Forum. I've used them the last few years.

Dear Fellow Collectors,

For those of you who have not booked transporation from and to O'Hare, Viatas Limousine charges $34 for a shared ride in a Lincoln Towncar. If you want this rate, you need to call them directly at 1-800-421-0607 and ask for the shared rate. If you use their online reservation link, it will only quote you the "non-shared" rate which is $65. I have never had to share a ride from O'Hare, but usually share the ride to the airport. Last year, it was with Andy and Helen of K&C.:smile2:

P.S. The vulture is already circling.^&grin
