Hi folks!

I´m planning to build a K&C Crusader diorama, but is desperate in need of a castle!

The JG Miniature castle is smashing but too big for my plans - and, yes i admit ;) - it´s quite expensive too.

Does anyone know: http://www.teifoc.com/index1.htm and will it do the job?

In order to protect the diorama will an upsite down aquarium give the needed protection og will it work??

Conte has done some fantastic castle pieces before that are nice.

Not sure if the upside down aquarium will work- never thought of it really. I am sure it could but it might get kind of heavy, especially if you move your figs around a lot.

Conte did two towers for his two Warlords playsets, both are out of production at the moment. I'd go with one of the Imex castle fronts, they need to be assembled and painted, but they look terrific all painted up.......

I would get some foam and build my own. You can carve all the stone work into the foam with a pencil. Rounded towers can be made by glueing a few pieces together and taking a bastard file or rasp to the pieces after they have dried and shaping them to the disired form and then carve your stone work in.
You could also use plaster or sheet rock and carve the stone work into the plaster.
The paper can be removed from the sheet rock by wetting it and peeling it off and then you can carve your stone work in.
Round towers can be made by pouring plaster into small buckets or large cups and stone work caved in.
With a little bit of work and a good imagination you can make something real nice and have fun doing it and come up with a one of a kind piece that fits your needs and can be custom made to fit and compliment your pieces.

You can make draw bridges and other little details from balsa wood or plastic hobby sheets and add thatched roofs from dried grasses. Just use your imagination and let it run wild. The skies the limit. Have fun!!!

How does that monty python holy grail scene go about they thought I was crazy to build a castle on a swamp???
The first one feel over and sank, the second feel over caught fire and sank  the 3rd ect, ect but the 5th one. :p

Bottom line don,t give up, give it a try and each project will be a learning experience and each one will get better and you,ll have fun doing it.
If you have any kids they,ll also enjoy doing a project like this with you also and if they get in your way just give them something easy to do or just give them a few scraps to do there own little project and they,ll have a ball helping you or doing there own little project.

There was some vendor at the Chicago show who had like a modular castle system. I can't remember what his website is but I've been meaning to look into it because I thought it was pretty cool idea. If someone knows who I am talking about please post it and in the mean time I'm looking through my flyers from the show.

Hi Alex,

I wonder if you mean the following:

Castle World Displays
Ken Mezines, owner
Telephone: 1-314-941-3040

Website: http://www.castleworlddisplays.com

E-mail: masterbuilder@castleworlddisplays.com

Ken has produced a transformable display unit made of durable resin. His system allows a person to build a particular style of castle (i.e., Western European style castle) which, with the aid of different additions, accessories, and backdrops, can be transformed into an number of different styles of castles (i.e., Asian, Eastern European, etc., etc.). It is a truly interesting concept which, in my opinion, is well worth considering. You can purchase any/all the castle pieces and/or accessories in painted or unpainted form.

Let me know if this is the information for which you are looking. If not, well, take a look at this interesting and creative concept anyway! :)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Hi! Collectors!

Thank you very much for your super ideas!:)

I think i´ll go for foam or some sort of styropor. Any way - you will be among the first to see the final result - when times come!;)

I need your help!!

I have now found a "palm tree dealer"! But how tall should the tree be?

Is a middleeast palm tree 2 or 3 times higher than a person?

Anybody, please!!

Hi Templar

The photos of Date palms I have seen make me think they are around two times taller than a man they are shorter than coconut palms I may have some in the computer that my wife took while in Baghdad so I will look. Sounds like this will be a very neat display

All the best

Dave

Hi again,

I ddi a quick look and the data I found suggests several sizes depending on the type. Typical eh? They range from about 15 Meters down to 2 meters according to the data I found. The ones my wife took pictures of were not that tall so I guess they will growth will vary due to water etc. So I think you can go with pretty much what ever you want but I think 15 - 20 feet tall (in scale) would suffice. Post some pictures when you get the display going.

All the best
Dave

Thanks Dave!

This forum will be the first to see the result!

My plans - for the moment - is a simple desert diorama - and when winter comes, i have plans for a castle too!

Hi folks,

I've been working with Blue Foam for almost two years, and you can be surprise with the results. It is very easy to cut, paint and almost do whatever your want.

Take a look these photos.

CHEERS:)

Hi

Here in Canada we use as house insulation. You'll find in almost any hardware store like Home Depot. Feel free to ask questions.

Cheers:)

Those are awesome buildings. The pic with old car in foreground is one of the best diorama shots I have ever seen. I had a few questions if you don't mind.

How sturdy is the material, say in comparison to the high density foam buildings ?

What type of glue do you use for bonding pieces ?

Thanks
