K&C Jagdtiger WS180 (1 Viewer)

Mitch repainted it mate and may i say he does a great job.....................:salute::

Wayne ,

I agree...Mitch's Winter AFV repaints are hands down the best i have seen done...I just started getting into the winter themed AFV's myself...So , got to say your JagdTiger looks awesome...Congrats !

Does the gun on the K&C Jagdtiger elevate and depress? Both K&C and Collectors Showcase insist on using that bilious green for some reason. I cannot imagine the correct color is that difficult to do! Mitch does an excellent repaint. I understand how everyone likes whitewashed vehicles; but realistically they were mostly used on the eastern front.

The K&C Jagd Tiger does it for me. It just has the right flavour about it.
I love the weight of the model, the way it sits heavy and flat on the desk.
I really like the K&C tracks, and the way they look drape along the top of the wheels looking heavy (I like that word). No need to tie them to the top of the wheels with nylon fishing line.
I have 3 of these, buggers and just can't resist them when I see em for sale......no self control!

ha ha ha, I agree. I know how it is because I begged andy for years to make one. I have 3 myself and never have gotten around to have somebody to repaint one. I remember climbing on the real one at Aberdeen. if you think the model sits heavy you feel the real one. OMG how anything penetrated that armor is a mystery to me. and I banged my leg on the hard steel getting off the thing. what a machine

Having 3 of these monsters speaks volumes about how popular this Tank is among collectors ! Hopefully another one along these lines
will show itself again in the near future !

Any thoughts on how repainting a TS-vehicle like this impacts its value? That's a real question, as I have no idea. Just curious as to how the investment shakes out come liquidation day.

There was a repainted French Char Bis tank (converted to German insignia). It sold at a crazy price. But that was when the secondary market was at its peak. I guess it is also whether it was such a good repaint job done with very good weathering on an item that is retired and hard to get today.

I collect antiques including toy cannon, castles etc. Originality is a very important component of valuation. A repaint will loose significant value; between 20% to 40% IMO. A review of repainted and /or modified K&C pieces on eBay validates these numbers. A BBG-016 Kingtiger was recently offered that had Zimmerit added plus a very nice repaint. Superior to the original; but the sale price was well below the original cost of $239.00. I think it sold at auction for less than $200.00.

I have this beauty in my Berlin last stand dio, one of my favourite period.
Cheers

I don't see many repaints for sale. Hence, my question. Of course, this could likely be remedied were I to spend more time looking. Intuition tells me that some value can be cooked into massed produced items of poorer quality simply by making them "special." However, I'd think a lot of folks would hesitate to take something of good quality, that's likewise rare, and embellish it with a degree of personal whimsy, whether they deem the result worthwhile or not, with $$$ imposing the judgement, rather than a desire for personalization. An analogy might be found in fellas that pour bucks into customizing their "dream-car," only to find on separation that it was their dream, not the broader, automobile-buying public.:redface2: I'll try and keep an eye out on EBay to get a better handle on this aspect of TS-collecting.

Having come my own curious route in the modelling/collecting hobby, I am prone to converting things and making something that is not available on the market to suit my idea or a diorama that I am creating. It is always satisfying to achieve the desired goal. This pursuit is distinct from collecting. Having achieved a personal goal and satisfied that itch, it would be delusional to just retag the project with a different goal (value-adding for the broader market) when this was not the original intent. Making toy soldiers for mass appeal is no doubt an enjoyable pursuit but a one-off conversion doesn't fit that bill. For those who like their own work and enjoy converting commercial figures, keep on enjoying it - it is satisfying. The next step is not selling conversions but making those figures you cannot buy - and selling them.

I like to buy broken polystone models and repair them. I save money and I can repaint them to my taste without being concerned about return on investment. I would not repaint a pristine model in original condition as they are limited production products and deserve to remain original IMO.

I fully agree with you. Sometimes, it is great to get a second piece that you pick up at a more economical price due to missing/broken items and do whatever customisation that you want with it.

Are the fugures SS or Heer? The ones peeking out seem to have Heer sidecap and M43, but commander loojs to have SS camo. I don’t think there were any of these is SS units. Most tank hunters ( Nashirn, Jagdoanthers and jagdtifers) were in independent heavy tank hunter units and all of these were in the Heer. They might have been attached to SS unuts but the unis would not have been SS

Towards the end of the war every German soldier was dressed in the outfit he could lay his hands on .
I have pictures of tank commanders even wearing Kriegsmarine jackets and leather motorcycle long coats , a mixture of Heer and SS clothing items, exercise uniforms, para jackets, etc ...;

Nice piece, having see the Porsche version at Bovington it is a truly impressive vehicle. On repaints I would say makes them worth less on the resale market, but I also think this is true for a lot of K & C pieces. Fewer and fewer collectors and we are living, I feel, in a golden era of collecting, K & C, T Gunn,
and J Jenkins are release some great sets [I know others are as well, but these are the three manufacturers I collect]. There is a nice repainted K & C Panther and German T34 both white washed on UK ebay for £143 at auction with no bids.

Speaking as a collector, repaints, repairs etc. reduces value. The object is no longer in original condition. Ebay has repainted Panzers by various manufacturers and if they sell at all, it is for significantly less than the same model in original condition. When I feel the urge to repaint a collectable model I wait until I can buy a damaged piece at a large discount, repair it and repaint it to my taste. I would not expect to sell it for anywhere near what a pristine piece would sell for.
