K&C/JJD Renault FT "head to head"comparison (3 Viewers)

Hi,

I thought it would be interesting to compare the K&C and JJD FT (Cannon armed version) together. Being the owner of both I must say they are fine models.

Obviously the K&C has the Cast type turret and the JJD the Riveted type. The K&C has a much brighter paint finish and a revolving turret.

The JJD has a more muted paint job, an elevating cannon, revolving turret and towing chains, and a choice of open or closed turret access hatches.

The K&C is larger in overall size which I guess would follow as I find K&C generally are larger scale figures compared to JJD's.

Both look very nice models but I sympathise with the manufacturers in their timetabling choices. I purchased the K&C version, really liked it, photographed it and plan on using it in a big diorama next year. Unless the big dio plan changes I am not in he market for another no matter how nice it is or what variations it offers. That has nothing to do with the manufacturers but just my reticence to double up given the seemingly endless releases of beautiful items.

Thanks for posting the comparison photos. I find them very useful. I have committed to the JJD models but desperately wanted to know how they compared in size to the KC model, as I like it too. I already have a ONWTC R-17, so I am going to wait to see how that compares to the JJD model before deciding on the KC model. Hopefully there will not be a great difference as I wouldn't mind having 3 different makes. Might do it any way and just go with forced perspective. -- Al

Note the colours and the details, so both JJD and K&C have tried very hard to achieve these miniature masterpieces.

It was outside the Musée de l' Armistice in Compiegne where the armistice was signed in the railway carriage.

I've got two of the JJD release on order, but I have to admit that I prefer the lighter colored camo on the KC model. The Jenkins' model appears to be somewhat superior in detail, stuff like the rivets, chain and crew hatch. For display purposes, it looks like something of a wash between the two. IMO, either manufacturer's model will look great in the curio or a diorama.

I have both as well and find no fault with either, yes K&C is bigger but is right for the scale they use, JJD is a little better detailed and in the large scale dio that Jack mentioned both will be used and placed apart the size issue will not appear apparent, all is good and well done K&C and JJD.....:salute::

We are not even into the first full year of the anniversary and already we have a plethora of releases. Not only will it be impossible to keep up but it's not desirable to do so. I'm taking a wait and see attitude on new releases and may let several months go by before I commit to purchases.

Good point, Brad. We are being swamped with outstanding releases. The pure number of releases has forced me to concentrate on only the French releases and I have even had to cut down to just the releases from JJD, with an occasional venture into KC or others. After so many years of practically nothing in matte for WW1, we now have just about everything we could want and then some (realizing, of course, that the subject matter is all but inexhaustible). -- Al

I wouldn't wait on JJD's 75mm French field gun. I think its going to sell out, especially with the soldiers pushing the gun. What a display piece! Even I'm giving it a hard look at it.

As it will only happen once (hundred year anniversary that is) I say more releases please, I am in a position where there is only me and a dog to feed, I don't have to pay anything off anymore and I earn a fair income and while I understand it is hard for some to afford all these great releases please don't stop them coming as they're are just to good.....:wink2: better TS than wine, women and song at my age...{sm4}

My plan is to collect what I 'must have' and then stop adding to my WW1 collection. I will then take the opportunity to start an entirely new range. I have over a hundred Britains/Jenkins/K&C/TG figures and some vehicles and aircraft from the conflict. Once I add the K&C Gallipoli releases and Jenkins' Old Bill and French 75 I will call it a day. That still will be many, many hundreds of dollars anyway. I will then look around for something new. I am too late for TCS Romans but something will come along that 'demands' to be purchased.

I feel I now have to wait some time to pass to see the full panoply of issues from JJD, K & C, Britains and TG to determine what I want; I'm interested in the German side of things, which, so far, is under represented. The one exception I will make is Britain's Moser gun as that will be limited to 400. Having a $335 price tag may guarantee that it's around for awhile, however.

Excellent post. Time to pick and choose, for me anyway. I'm sure there are some things that are nice -- such as the bird wagon -- that will have to go by the board.

Good post, as it is the same problem I have faced. The one saving grace for me has been the long gap (some 15 months) since JJD last put out a WW1 aircraft. The planes are my Achilles heel and I will purchase them over anything else, including the wonderful JJD Poilu series (with the exception of the must have 75 gun). If JJD had continued releasing aircraft at the same rate as he had been doing early on, my budget when have been going entirely to the aircraft and I wouldn't have been able to afford the Poilus and tanks. Basically, I am doomed regardless of what JJD does in his release schedule, unless he stops both the aircraft and Poilus. Then I would be back after his French-Indian War releases. I am as doomed as doomed can be.:redface2: -- Al

Hi,
I'm also struggling to keep up with the new releases....One vehicle and a couple of figures each month (brilliant as they are) is stretching my budget to say the least! The Poilu's are superlative though:



At the moment I'm basically down to collecting one series from one manufacturer, with a couple of fill ins where possible. But if I buy the French gun and the Old Bill Bus, I'm tied into the supporting figures as well....And that is before something else just as good comes along (which I'm sure it will)!

Not complaining, just stating where I'm at at the moment....

We're doomed Captain Mainwaring....Doomed!
