Hi all-

During the last several months, I've read a few posts relating to paint chipping/peeling (I believe one post was in the First Legion forum). Have not read much in regard to K&C figures with paint quality issues, but I was just wondering:

Is peeling paint from K&C figures a common experience or extremely rare? I'd like to think the later.
Were there any lines of K&C themes that had issues?
Is this more common with older figures than those produced in the last few years?
Does storing K&C in extremely warm or extremely cold temperatures cause paint chipping/peeling?

A few questions relating to K&C paint quality...

I only encountered one figure that was a perpetual peel, PM023. Not sure why, but the paint starts to fall apart immediately when you take it out of the box. I have not encountered this issue for the rest of my KnC collection. Also, the Romans in FL are doing fine as well.

However, chipping does occur if the shipper does not rubber band the boxes tight before shipment. Rubbing between figures in multiple figure sets are usually the cause of the chip as they flip flop on each other. Single figures do not have this issue as the box has a flap that will latch it tight.

I have a fairly large K&C collection and can't think of any paint loss on figures or AFVs with the exception of bent parts. Thin parts like rifle barrels, swords, scabbards, etc. can lose paint if bent and straightened back. Even that isn't a frequent problem. That is the only paint loss I can think of. I'm clumsy with the figures, so K&C durability when I knock them to the floor is a selling point. ^&grin

It takes some serious man handling to chip etc a K&C figure. I would think this is a very very rare thing if its happened direct from a factory.

I think from all the makers K&C durability in terms of handling figures, strength of paint and similar is probably streets ahead of everyone else

WO ,

I have been collecting K&C for twenty years , & I have never had an issue with paint chipping or peeling...As has already been said on this thread , I handle my figures & AFV's & they are durable...

I have some 10 year old K & C figures and vehicles, no chipping or paint flaking off.

I have also had KC figures from way back up to present day and never had a flaking problem on any figure or vehicle. The paint finish is very durable. As with others on here, any paint loss has been due to my clumsiness combined with gravity. -- Al

I shouldn't think any paint would come off with the premium painting.

I have no issues at all with this. All of my figures and vehicles are peel free. Chipping is due to accidental contact causing damage, which will happen to any painted object.

I haven't bought a K&C figure for several years now. The only problem I ever did have was with set BBA001. The paint on the the rifle slings was cracked and falling off.

I've been collecting K&C for years now and the only problem I've ever had was when the paint on one of my figure's face started chipping. I've actually become quite good at touching up the paint on the figures, but I couldn't match the fleshtone color. I took it back to my dealer and he replaced it for free.

as an avid kc collector from 1995 to2012 i myself have had little to no problems except a couple figures with some face chipping mainly because they were dropped and a couple with some light chipping on weapons or boot heels and that is a small percentage of the 1800 figures i had collected.

I had a few cases , mainly with figures recently produced.Usually with club figures , i can't explain why!CF023,CF024,CF025,CF026,CF027 all experienced flaking(strangely not CF020,021,022,028)..the same problem for KM012,KM014,LAH125,LW031,WS159,AK062 and AL013..all in all a small percentage of my K&C collection (185 sets) but alarmingly high for the figures recently produced involved.Never experienced this problem for figures , let's say , anterior to 2008.CF027 (Dolittle) is nearly entirely retouched...:(

I had some AK figures peeling,im lucky having Obee around the corner so no biggie was about half a dozen figures.

Cantinetozzo mate,
I would consider I have a large collection of K&C and have, apart from one flag, never had a flaking problem. I must admit though I saw, with Andy, in LA a few years back some early LH figures with bad flaking. Andy showed them to me and ask if any of mine had this problem. I answer NO. On close examination of the figures, I pointed out to Andy that there were all flaking in the same spot on each different figure. Basically around the point you would hold a figure if you picked it up. Further checking by Andy revealed that the collector worked in a chemistry labatory and may have not washed his hands after handing some chemicals which would have still been on his hands when he picked up the figures. Hence eating at the paintwork.
I therefore would recommend to you and all collectors of all brands that they are careful in handling their figures with unclean hands. Just my thoughts.
Cheers Howard

Hi Howard, i can say in two cases the flaking was probably due to the fact the figures i bought in Rome were exposed in a glass outside the shop, so i presume hot & cold played havoc. For the club figures by the way i can't find an explanation, i love to handle my figures but mainly i take them from the base and i always wash my hands..:) my thought is that probably a figure recently painted risks flaking more than a figure that is in store for more time..i don't certainly blame the quality of the paint or other, my Custer is really well painted and so other recent figures..

Guys, The last time I checked these K&C figures were expensive collectibles. That being said collectibles should always be stored at room temperature when possible and out of direct sunlight.
Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you. I have some Berlin 45' series figures made back in 2005 and they are "ALL" in pristine condition. Drop a metal painted figure or allow it to make contact
with a hard surface and guess what.........The paint will chip !!!!!

Mine seem to be ok but i do worry about them as the humidity can be quite oppressive here for about 6 to 7 months of the year and i can't run an air conditioner day and night 24/7.
