Hawker Typhoons, P47 Thunderbolts, and P51 Mustangs (collectively referred to as Jaeger-Bombers or Jabo's to the Germans) would have engaged the German forces once the weather cleared. Also in the air over the Bulge would have been C47 Dakotas (Gooneybirds to U.S. forces) dropping supplies to the 101st and other forces beseiged in Bastogne.

From what I understand, early on the Germans had local air superiority because of the weather. You would have seen some ME109's and FW190's flying close air support. Maybe even some light bombers like JU88's.

Most of the German air strength was horded for Operation "Bodenplatte" (spelling?). That was the big air strike on Allied forward airfields on New Years 1945. The last big gasp of the Luftwaffe in the west.

FYI there were a number of German air-to-ground operations around Remagen after the 9th Armored seized the Ludendorf Bridge there.

I think the ME262a4 Jet bomber varient first saw service trying to bomb the bridge at Remagen.

K&C warbirds are meant to be displayed on airfield dioramas with K&C pilots and groundcrew figures. Accordingly they are sculpted with gear down. The gear does not retract. If you want a similar wood aircraft (not quite as detailed or well constructed) but with the gear up, try a regular Philippine producer, like Motion Models: http://www.motionmodels.com/custom.html

I just really want a K&C though

Re: Battle of The Bulge

Even the custom ones from MM will cost you in the $500 range. The K & C planes come with stands so you can display it on a stand. Have you seen any of the K & C planes? Tim has a few so maybe he will show you.

Ill try MM, but i saw one in box, we didnt want to break it by taking it out. Do you have a link for MM

Re: Battle of The Bulge

They will do custom and they will do 1:30. It takes about 6 months for delivery of a custom model. I have a custom P47 Thunderbolt with the gear down, drop tanks and bombs, and it cost me about what a K&C strictly limited warbird costs.

Richard,
The K&C warbirds are fabulous, but for value and quality the Corgi line of metal 1/32 Aircraft can't be beat. Unsurpased detail, Landing gear that retract, all flaps operate, engine covers remove as well as service panels for armement, cockpit open and a great variety of aircraft. BF-109's Spitfires, Hurricaines, P-51's and even a massive Mesquito. At the prices there going for on e-bay you could probably get one and have someone like Alex do a custom scheme that would stand with any warbird.
