KING & COUNTRY Dispatches -- December 2015 (1 Viewer)

All of the BBA's for me this month !!!!!!
no DD ( don't like the facial expression on the cartoon characters)
guy:)

Nice bunch of dispatches this month and I like the new BBA figures and sets as well as the cartoonist set. That G.I. in the middle is sure one ugly bugger though!

Tom

Guessing the NCO with pike is for next month then?

Scott

Yes, I bet he will be the first NAP for 2016 :)

You have to have the Gun Sergeant commanding the gun, and keeping the gunners in-line with his spontoon (Not a spike !!)

and I do like the BSM,

he's GOD on the gun line !!!!!!

John

Oh dear.....NAP Artillery !!

you do need to get your technical terminology correct Andy !!!!

you say :

NA340 "Gunners Set A" A gunner using the “pointing lever” to position the gun alongside another gunner with the lantern rod.

Those items are a HAND SPIKE and a LADLE ROD which was used to load in a measured amount of gunpowder, if a bag of powder wasn't used.

NA343 "Royal Artillery Corporal w/Fuse Rod"

Should be a Bombardier ( there are no corporals in Royal Artillery ) holding a Linstock

Take a Gunner to pick this, once a gunner, always a gunner :)

Love the figures though :) :)

John

You've missed that one Obee!!! It's not a handspike or as Andy calls it a "pointing lever" It's the dreaded British Gunner's weapon "a sharp stick" from the expression "it's better than a sharp stick in the eye" {sm4} And I see Andy has left out the "thing-a- ma-jig another important artillery item. ^&grin

But at least it's a nice full set and looks well done. I'll be getting this set. Obviously the first piece to get will be the sharp stick. ^&grin^&grin

Well said,John.I am in total agreement.Well done that man.

Cannons are of course great. But i'd love to see an ammo chest or limber too!

Another thing would be a british foot artillery or horse artillery crew under attack and running for their lives. Gunners sprinting away. NCOs levelling spontoons towards enemy cavalry, Dead Sergeant major and gunners, mounted Officer in sword combat with a French Curassier!

OH NO !!!

Gunners don't run !!!!

They defend their guns, because the guns are the colours AND you don't abandon your colours to the enemy !!!!!!! {eek3}

Yes, NCO's fending off cavalry, and an officer with a sword, but let's see more grapeshot being fired in the enemy, that want gunners do to attacking infantry :) :) !!!!!!

I thought in the event of a cavalry attack they used to leave the guns and take refuge in the middle of a square? After the cavalry had left then they returned to their guns.

I'm really looking forward to adding the new RA and French artillery sets to my collection. Now bring on the 95th Rifles!

Cheers,

Brendan

Like the new sets, but a lot less than normal and also no Germans? Think we may see some winter German paras as the pics from Andy's visit to Italy look like winter paras? interesting one of them has a very old number BBA56............

No Fury or D-Day allies? The bank and BB gun comes as a surprise. At least this gives me another month to save a little money for next wave. {sm4}

Hi Obee,
Don't worry, leaving the guns was authorised by Wellington at Waterloo. He passed on orders that Gunners were to fire on the French cavalry until the last minute then run for the shelter of the nearest infantry square. When the cavalry had had enough, the Gunners were instructed to return to the guns and fire into the retreating French. Oddly, there is no evidence of any of the British guns having been spiked by the French when the guns came into their possession. Apparently this was because the French were loathe to dismount while in enemy territory.
Regards,
Johnboy.

But at Waterloo a great many Gunners did run away even after taking refuge in squares and after the cavalry had gone they just 'retired' from the field. Much was the same for the Union and Household Cavalry Brigades!

Would love to see a KGL foot artillery set.

Certain Units of British, KGL and Dutch Artillery did retire from the field.. But the evidence is contradictory and some of the Eyewitness accounts have been found to be 'unreliable' and wrong. The confusing nature of events at Waterloo with Prussian Troops arriving on the field late in the day added to the inaccuracy of accounts.

As for the Union and Household Cavalry Brigades at Waterloo. The Heavy Cavalry was decimated by the ill judged hotheaded command continuing their initial successful attack on the French Infantry to the French1st Corps 'Grand Battery' itself . On returning many of the Units were down to no more than 50 men and horses fit for any further action. The British Cavalry Commanders whom survived! with Wellingtons Permission retired them in good order to Braine-l'Alleud behind in Reserve with a unused British infantry Battalion protecting the the main road junction and communications with Brussels . Only the Royal Horse Guards whom was in Reserve during the main British Cavalry Attacks and whom was only lightly engaged stayed as Wellingtons Personal Reserve loosely protecting him and HQ.

Another quiet dispatch for me. The pick of the lot are the two GI's huddling around the gallon drum getting warm. The facial sculpts on the Knights of the Round table look very good. ^&cool
