B. ‘ON THE FIELDS OF NORMANDY’

View attachment 275030

Great to see another Firefly, could there be an option to do a limited run representing what was probably the most famous Firefly in Normandy, Elkin's Firefly A Squadron, 1st Northamptonshire Yeomanry, 3 Tigers and a Panzer IV destroyed, not a bad days work. Would this be popular? One other I would like to see would be Sgt Harris and Gunner [Trooper] Mackillop, A Squadron, 4/7 Royal Dragoons Guards, On June 15th 44 during Operation Perch he ambushed and knocked out 5 Panthers. Could also be good if we got some 75mm Shermans from the same unit, B Squadron 23rd. Hussars, would make great dio opportunities, such as i have with my Panzer 38t trio.

Look forward to adding another Sherman Firefly, my list is getting longer, but it is definately on there.

Very expensive month coming up for me, but nevertheless exciting. Great to see a mounted Roman and such a striking one at that. Nice to see the long awaited Black Watch band marching into collectors hands. Excellent work Andy. Robin.
Robin, Looks like only the British Firefly and New Tommy's are the ticket for myself :salute::

I would like this guy too, the only one I miss, sob!!

Maybe not a re issue of this figure, but why not use another horse pose that has been used before, like one of these ???

wounded.jpg

I have only just realised that that the Scots Grey and the Dragoon falling have the same horse pose ....... ???????

Scots Grey with any of these poses will be most welcome for those of us who already have the older ones, what do you think ???

John

Andy mate,
Great to see the Black Watch Pipes and Drums finally released. Have taken your advice and added two more Pipers and another Drummer to increase the size of the Band. These three were also promoted in the ranks to Corporals.

Also the Vietnam Aussie Mortar Teams and Add-On Ammo are a welcome release which will help to finalize my mortar pits in my new NAM Fire Base Dio.

Stay safe cobber, Cheers Howard

Good suggestion John...I will look into it!

G’day Howard and many thanks for posting your ‘promoted’ pipers and drummer!
As one of K&C’s most loyal and supportive collectors AND the possessor of probably the finest and biggest private King & Country collections in Australia I salute you and raise a wee dram to these newly-promoted NCO’s.

Roll on the day when I can return to Oz and meet up with Brett, Peter & Sven and Andrew (our great Aussie Dealers) and all our collector mates down under and old friends such as yourself and Jen.

All the very best of good health and fair weather to one and all,
Andy.

John,
That is a useful photo for some collectors. Or a not so happy reminder of ones they don't have ! There seems to be a "phenomenon" that happens with casualty cavalry figures. For some strange reason they seem to retire first of the group. No idea if that means more popular or less made. Frequently hear collectors say chasing one of them. Buy the casualty first ! Had forgotten about some of the Cuirassiers in your pic but that group was the biggest group of mounted KC done apart from Lighthorse.

......there's also the odd stray 'Kiwi' who'd enjoy a quick jaunt across the ditch to share a cold beverage or three with their dodgy Aussie mates hopefully one day in the not so distant future....:salute::

PS.....love the new wall & gate sets. ^&grin

This month I am very interested in a few items from the retirement list (BBA084 and BBG118)and the European gateway. Will pass the message to my dealer this morning
Guy:)

Agreed, the winter Stug is a wonderful model and really like the commander figure with white helmet.

Sad to see the USMCs camo boys being retired, I consider K&Cs recent WW2 Marines some of their best ever, particularly the poses.

Would love Andy to 're-release' another camo Amtrak.

I love the praetorians.I will probably get the mounted figure to go worth my collection. I would love to see a few more fighting poses. The advancing praetorian with levelled javelin was a great start.
Please make more Andy
Regards
Jason

And maybe room for one ex Kiwi living in Tassie to meet up with some fellow collectors?

I for one am all for the reissuing of altered older poses. They look great and I missed out on some good sets the first go around. That being said, I'd love to see the Rev War revisited. Lots of opportunities to release repaints as different regiments, etc.

I think the wounded figures add greatly to the Napoleonic Cavalry charges, my favourite pieces. I also think we have take a minute and realise the quality of these figures and how they have stood the test of time, the Scots Grey collasping was NA88, the Curr's were NA112, NA115 and NA120, Dragoons NA42 and NA44. They were released ages ago and as a piece they must be more difficult to cast and paint that a charging figure. I remember getting them first, i did not know how much collectable they were, just they looked the best of what was a great set of releases, i did manage to get multiples, as with others and as a group they do tremenous, where multiples of the same figures do not really matter.

Unsure about the mounting of the tracks on the side of a Firefly, does anyone have any pics of this?😃I know the yanks done it but I dont think this was a British thing! Cool model though! I just bought a minty old one!

That is not a British Firefly, it is Canadian Firefly, it is from the 27th Canadian Armoured Regiment, Sherbrooke Fusiliers, 3nd Canadian Armoured Brigade.
There was no decision at a high level on tank tracks position on tanks in the British armoured regiments, as with many of these things it was done at operational levels, be it regiment, squadron or troop. Most did of course, originally as replacements more than added protection. I have read that some officers did not like it on turret as it masked the turret markings, there was also a problem with any turret mountings, which added weight that could effect the turret rotation, putting weight pressure on the power drive or more effort and/or slower if the turret was hand cranked. If up there on the turret they would be used mainly as extra armour as there would be problems getting tracks up there and off again, they are quite heavy. Plus there no brackets on the turret to hang them off.

Increased armour was a bit of an obsession, which is understandable, especially against panzerfaust and bazookas, but it was thought they were a waste of time as the attacks by such weapons was done at such a short range, under 70 yards they aimed at the tank hull and very few hit the turret and they would would ineffectual again anti tank shells.

The Canadians appeared to have really gone for it and there are many pictures of Canadian units where the tanks are awash with track links.

If we are looking at the 23rd Hussars Sherman Fireflys in Normandy [they did not land until several days after D Day] the answer is no, simply by research through pictures I have from books and internet searches, none of the tanks have track attached to their turrets, all Sherman tanks not just Fireflys. There are very few attached to hull sides and the ones I have seen it cannot be confirmed the tank is from that regiment.
