Hi all,

I'm new to the forums and new to the world of collecting 1:30 Napoleonics. I just started purchasing K&C Napoleonics and was wondering how they compare to Collectors' Showcase Napoleonics in terms of size/compatibility and quality. I was reviewing the CS website and their Napoleonics have some great poses.

If anyone has comparison photos or can point me to another thread that has a summary it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

They go pretty well together. I have the CS Polish Lancers side by side with the K&C Cuirassiers and they look great. You can look at my TF album for some pics.

Size wise, I think they're fine, though K & C are a bit chunkier. My main concern is with the heads of the CS cavalry, which just look a bit odd. It's mainly due to the necks, which are a bit long in my opinion.

You can also throw in a few of The mounted Del Prado Napoleons as fillers. They go well with both. Larry.

Are the albums all under the Diorama section of the forum or am i missing something obvious. I did a search of your posts and didn't find it. Thanks for the prompt response.

I think their compatibility depends on the particular figures.

Here are some shots of the Scots Greys - the 3 darker horses are CS; the rest KC. The French are all KC and Del Prado. (Del Prado were at one time made by KC, so are similar)

In this instance the CS cavalry are chunkier than the KC ones, hence why they are at the front. They work together for me - but then it is my diorama :smile2:

Personally, I prefer the poses from CS - they are more animated. However, I think the best cavalry release were the KC's Cruissars.

Thanks for posting those pictures - that's exactly what I wanted to see. On a side note, why are Del Prado minis so much cheaper than K&C or CS minis?

They are cheaper because of the overall lower quality of their figurines in terms of details and painting job. That said Del Prado quality is not consistent so some figurines look way better than others.

Yes, I agree about the painting, but they are good value when you get them damaged and use them like a casting to repaint.

A freind of mine who visited K&C IN HK got me some as 'raw metal' castings that were on sale, and I've managed to bring them up to an acceptable standard.

I have been given a rather badly painted 1850's (?) Austrian Ulan Trumpeter, so I'll be sure to show Before and After pictures on the Forum.

Del Prado were mass produced so were cheaper.

As to quality, again for me it depends on which Del Prado figures you are talking about. Some of them are very crudely painted.

However, some are compatible such as the RHA trooper and French Dragoon. Here are a few comparison shots - one is KC and one is Del Prado.

It is also how I picked up multiple canons for my Scots Grey display - they are always a bargain.

In terms of CS; I really like the Guards kneeling pike figure but it is part of a three person set; were it available as a single figure I would have liked to have bought several to add to my KC Brit Square. (I know they are different Guards units but it is my dio :smile2:) Perhaps this will happen?

Great comparison photos, Gazza. I'll have to order a figure or two and check them out.

I have CS, K&C and delPrado all in my displays as well and I think they look great together - I believe I have some pictures of them together in my albums here on TF {sm4}
