I was just wondering why K&C sets NA158(SL) have been selling BELOW the original retail price of $229.00 USD on eBay to date. It would seem all the dealers have sold out of this set and I would think by now this great Napoleonic set of Napoleon & his generals should be selling at least something over the $229.00 original retail price. Does any body have any idea why this set K&C set NA158(SL) is NOT selling for more on eBay by now???

I think there are two reasons:

1. Economy is bad.

2. There are to many speculators currently in the marketplace.

Some of these folks are in the hobby for the wrong reason and I assume find

themselves in a cash crunch and start dumping stuff.

This is all new to me as I always collected Lionel Trains & toys from the 50's

& 60's. I was never interested in anything new. I never touched new Lionel

so I never had to deal with speculators.

When I became interested in King & Country a lot of the same rules applied

with the exception of it being a new product. For the first few years all the

trading was done between dealers & other collectors but I noticed a year or

so ago a sudden flood of people we had never heard of selling tons of just

retired items. A collector usually has a vested interestest in the items he

collects, a speculator could care less he just wants to make a buck.

I expect things to get back to normal shortly, if the speculators can't make

a quick buck they will lose interest and fade away.

Another factor is that more of the SLs are made than the market can bear. Most of the SLs sell below retail. It takes a few years for them to get back to original MSRP.

I think both Njja and you are right. If I remember correctly 999 sets of this one were made. This one was retired in 8/08 just before the economy started really to tank, so I guess some speculators didn't see this coming when they loaded their closets with that one and now they have to sell at a loss.
I personally own one that I complemented nicely with the Britain's Waterloo generals (Lefebvre-Desnouettes, Ney, etc.)

Very nice, it really is an excellent piece. I moved out of the Napoleonic range

a couple of years ago, I only have a handful of figures but I do have this set

and I enjoy it very much!

I actually go this set yesterday from my dealer in Belfast. he always gives me a few quid off K&C UK prices, so I paid £190 for it new. He would always order three or four of any limited edition pieces, but he does not sell above retail for them. I actually believe he still has one of Rommels Griefs in stock.

I don't really care what this piece is worth on the Ebay circuit, I own one and I think its a great centrepiece of any Napoleonic collection ( shhhh, don't tell capitolron I own something French! )

Cheers
CFM :)

Hi Gary,

I have been admiring you splendid diorama with the K&C Set NA158(SL).

It looks great in your Napoleonic collection and should remain the centrepiece.

Best Regards, Raymond.:)

Who is your dealer...........?

I have a feeling he's getting a lot of emails asking that question :)

I don't think they are selling below retail; I saw one recently go below retail like $158 - but I think because it had no box... if I didnt have one already, I would have bid on it, even sans box.... but personally I only buy unboxed K&C if its a real bargain.

if there is a dip i think it is a fleeting one. i own this set because its a hell of a great set and i am a big glossy napoleonic collector. i just think that if you are a true collector of that period that you will own one eventually

I had mine as a 50th present last year, one of my favourites.

I've seen a couple of NA158 (SL) on eBay for about £190 or so :D .So when i`m writing out my Christmas present list for the wife, this set and the new NA191 Cold stream saving the boy figure, will definitely be on top of my list.

Roll on Christmas.:D

Cheers Mark

Hello Jeff,

Thanks for posting a photo of this nice set.

It does look a little glossy in appearance.

I did not know K&C did Naps in matte.

KInd Regards, Raymond.:)

Raymond,

K & C, back in the early years, made Naps in glossy. I have some and I believe photos can be found in the K & C glossy thread. I could always shoot more if you like.
