King Tiger : Bovington Tank Museum (1 Viewer)

I was going through some old pictures and saw some pictures we took at the Bovington Tank Museum in England years ago. One that was interesting to me was the one with me standing by the King Tiger with the Porsche turret. I'm about 6 feet tall and the photo shows the enormity of the tank. I got out my old K&C WS067 King Tiger/Porsche turret and took a couple photos. I think we all already know that some of the earlier K&C tanks were underscaled a little and maybe the figures are overscaled as well (and I'm not trying to bring up that debate again believe me!:tongue, but thought that these photos were interesting.

I've studied the photos and the only problem I can see is in the first photo - the person in front of the tank is too short (the wrong scale to be a toy soldier)

The Porsche KT is only 1:32 scale while the figures are about 1:28. Clearly, the comparison of a 6 ft person next to an actual KT shows just how far off the model tank/figure sizes used to be. BBG016 is the K&C Herschel KT and side by side with WS067, the Henschel KT is much larger at 1:30 scale. The figures at 1:28 look better next to it, but not quite perfect.

It is a very good photo to show where the top of a 6 ft person's head comes just up to the deck of the KT. And in WWII, most tankers were under 6 ft.

Nice pictures! Without wanting to add to such a long settled debate, all I have to say is that Terry said it all! Of all the K&C KT releases, only the Henschel KT is more accurate in scale to the figures, I have all 3 K&C KT, and both Porsche's are visibly far smaller.

Makes you realize what an absolute beast those things were back in WWII-how the ground must've shook as they approached infantry...

This tank- the 213- ( original turret number), was abandoned by Peiper ( because of lack of petrol- but intact) was captured by the US troops and used for target practice . They took Bazooka shot after shot on it but none penetrated .( see the marks on the front)

Thanks to all for the comments. Thanks Guy for the info and pics of the La Gleize KT. Based upon my photo and Guy's photos, it looks like (to be accurate) your figure's heads should come up to around the top of the hull on a KT.

That tank was a monster! The bravest soldier in the war, had to be a tank commander sitting in the turret of a sherman, and having to see that SOB down the road. Id have that m4 in reverse quicker than white on rice!
