As always Duke the lighting in this dio is done very well and i love how you captured the moment. {bravo}}

Tom

superb shots. a great dio and really like the way everything blends and the way the K&C captured german seems to be awkwardly looking at his Kamerad thinking, Am I next?

Very nice BoB dio , I like it very much...... but historically unfortunately not correct .

This is the story of the Tiger II - turret n°332
The turret number in blue and yellow indicates that the tank belonged to the Schwere SS Panzer Abteilung 501( 1st SS PanzerKorps)The Tank was found near the village of Coo, abandonned by its crew ( the tank was hit by a fosfor shell which produced a lot of smoke, and the German crew thought it was on fire )It was discovered by the 463rd Ordnance company along the N33 road, they could start it up but could not move it because its tracks were frozen to the ground. They got the tank moving by pouring petrol over the tracks and putting them alight.While the tank was being loaded upon a heavy tractor-trailer the cold and hungry German crew came out of the woods and surrendered. The tracks of the recovered 332 Tiger II were intact and all of the German crew were captured alive !!!

Here you have some photographic proof of my 332 Tiger story. You can clearly see the fire marks left on the hull by putting the tracks ablaze

Thanks everyone for the comments. Guy, yes I was aware and know the history of King Tiger 332 just as you say in your post. I was just creating a fictitious scene and since my model comes with an extra blown track, I thought I would use it:. Maybe my next dio with this tank could be the real scene, but I would need to find a trailer to scale. Also, look at just how huge a KT really was. In your photo it's making that trailer really "squat" down almost to where they could not haul it away. {eek3}

That was exactly the case . Several blown tires were the result of loading that beast onto the trailer. It took them several days to reach the railway station of Spa( only a few miles away) where 332 was loaded on a train and evacuated out of the battle zone ;
-Tiger 332 abandonned by crew on dec 25th near Coo
-Stavelot was reached by the 463rd Ordn. on dec 26th
-Spa railway station reached on Dec 28th

Guy, do you know what happened to the KT after they shipped it away on the train? Is it still around today in a museum or somewhere?

Sorry Duke for taking this discussion off your dio which is a goody.

Tom,

King Tiger 332 to my understanding has been in the USA ever since WWII and at several locations including Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Patton Museum Ft. Knox KY, and recently moved to Ft Benning GA to be part of a future armor museum.

Great Dio. I actually remember when I saw it as a kid at Aberdeen(before it was moved). Truly awesome beast! How did u do the snow? Brad

Thanks, the snow is from JG Miniatures and called Scenic Snowflakes.

When I bought this 332 Tiger made by The Collectors Showcase (and it's a superb model) I had seen many photos of the real tank 332 and knew that the "332" numerals were not exactly the correct size or shape as on the actual tank in 1944. I have had in my closet the 1/35 Tamiya rendering of a KT including the decals of "332" which if I can, I plan to take off the CS decals and replace with the Tamiya ones to make it look more authentic. Here are photos of the Tamiya decals (even though 1/35) would look close enough I think to the actual smaller block type numbers of the real tank.

Thanks for the info Duke, i would love to see the real thing up close one day. The tank museum i visited in France has a Royal Tiger (which i think is similar or the same as the KT) but unfortunately it was not there when i visited several years ago. I think it was having maintenance done to it or something...

Tom

Tom, the info given by Duke is 100% correct.
You can still see another KT today in front of the BoB museum at the village of "La Gleize" in the Belgian Ardennes . It was also abandonned by Kampfgruppe Peiper just outside the village of La Gleize.Interesting are the impact marks on the hull, just like little scratches.
I attach a pic of this great beast.

some more pics about the KT tank at La Gleize
one picture taken during winter, just like in 1944
the impacts on the front plate and also a detailed pic of 50mm impacts on the turret, just like scratches on the paint
