A fascinating read and excellent photos.
Thank you for sharing your work.

Wow, a well researched history lesson as well as a superb layout complemented by the terrific photos. The light and the framing are top class.

I guess this is what you meant at the Dec London show when you said you "had an idea for a little diorama".

Can't wait to see the results of any "big ideas":)

Regards
Clive

Thanks for all the kind comments , it was enjoyable setting this one up, it's great there are so many different manufacturers that we can pick very different pieces up from:) The one element that nobody makes which I would have liked would have been some winter horse drawn stuff like carts/wagons/artillery/mounted figures to throw in..and thanks Clive .. the JS-2 arrived just in time to complete the line-up..magnificent piece..

Beauty of a dio. The mix of makers is the part I like best. If you can track it down, Honour Bound made a winter field kitchen that was horse drawn. It is a very nice piece. -- Al

The few WW2 horse drawn or mounted figures are all summer versions, as far as I remember, including the new K&C Cossaks. The HB winter field kitchen is the only winter piece I can think of.

In January 1944, the German forces of Field Marshal Erich von Manstein’s Army Group South including General Otto Wöhler's 8th Army had fallen back to the Panther-Wotan Line, a defensive position along the Dnieper river in Ukraine.
Two corps, the XI under Gen. Wilhelm Stemmermann, the XLII Army Corps under Lt.Gen. Theobald Lieb and the attached Corps Detachment B from the 8th Army were holding a salient into the Soviet lines extending some 100 kilometers to the Dnieper river settlement of Kanev, with the town of Korsun roughly in the center of the salient, west of Cherkassy.

An airfield at Korsun also provided the possibility that any units that might become trapped could be re-supplied by air. Despite this, Field Marshal Von Manstein, commander of Army Group South, had requested repeatedly that the two Corps be allowed to withdraw from the salient in order to straighten the German line. However Hitler refused, ordering that the salient be held, despite the risk of encirclement. He proposed that once the Russian offensive had been halted, it would be used as a springboard for an offensive to recapture Kiev.

OUTSTANDING!

I just saw this thread this morning, where to begin? It looks very well thought out. Great use of diorama pieces, and the photo angles are great too! The lighting or lack of lighting is very effective; especially the spot lighting against the snowy surface. Great use of mixed vendor vehicles and figures to achieve the theme.

Absolutely beautiful work-Has to be amongst the very best WWII dioramic scenes I have seen put together. Stunning museum quality-a triumph!

Looks like this diorama gets the UK Reb Good Housekeeping seal :)

Excellent diorama and photos. I enjoyed the narrative of the battle. Thanks for posting. Leadmen

Excellent Red,

Only you are able to put together a massive Eastern Front diorama with a variety of manufactures, VERY NICE....

Cheers.

Bet you've not been planning this one long then......

RH, that is a simply superb set of dios and narrative. Particularly like the lighting, especially the airfield shots. Very like 'Stalingrad' (92ish? version).

Great work!
