Once again, Martyn, the breadth and depth of your collection astounds!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool I have the regular version of this set, but the addition of the Indian Army medic takes it up a notch!

ANGLO BOER WAR series

During the Boer War an agreement was reached between the Boers and British that no Indian soldiers were deployed to southern Africa as combatants, rather all the fighting troops were to be British. This was because both the British and the Boers had agreed that no non-white troops were to participate in the war in a fighting capacity; a decision taken through fear of arming Africans who might later turn their weapons against both British and Boer alike. However, many Indians did in fact serve during the Anglo-Boer War as ‘auxiliaries’ in support of the fighting men, itself a not inconsiderable role. A few Indian Lancers slipped through, more of them later :wink2:

Set# SEQ3A - CAMEL SCREW GUN BATTERY - NAVAL BRIGADE

This is the updated version with bases fixed to the camels making them much sturdier when displayed. My original set, shown below, did not have bases.

Hi Michael

With bases, the ones without tended to topple over very easily

All the best

Martyn

Martyn...

that's what I was wondering about...
I have owned a few sets of mounted figures without bases...
and when I bump the display case...
they fall over like a row of dominos...

unlike your collection...
they were cheap figures and I made bases with oven baked clay...
which solved the problem...

not recommending it for your collection...

in your case...
maybe a dab of tacky wax on their hooves might help...

Sweet camel batteries, Martyn!!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool I am hoping to find the WWI Turkish Camels and Screw Gun sets someday!:smile2:

Hi Michael

All the early Trophy/Under Two Flags horses and camels did not have bases. Trophy rectified the "unsteady" problem on later releases, starting late 1980's early 1990's. We have a product in the UK called Blue Tack which sounds just like tacky wax, thank you for the tip:salute::

That's what I do with my really old Trophy and Under Two Flags camels horses. I use a white sticky putty material typically used for tacking pictures to walls.

ANGLO BOER WAR series

I have been very lucky recently and added to my ABW collection with several "Special Commission" sets, several of which were commissioned by The Guards Toy Soldier Shop in London back in 2001

Here is the ABW version of

Set# EQ62 - ARMY SERVICE CORPS SUPPLY WAGON As you can see the set has the addition of an Indian Army Pioneer assistant to the driver, the small dog is also included

What a lovely piece Martyn. Once again I could see this in my collection, just really like wagons/horses. You would have to be extremely happy with this purchase. Robin.
