The weather people are all a twitter which can only mean one thing. Looks like about a foot predicted for here. I think Al drew the short straw as DC is in the bull's eye or as I like to say the belly of the beast. Maybe three feet. That is Jack Nicholson in the Shining time. They must be going nuts there since one inch can paralyze the city.

Christmas day I was at Washington Crossing State Park for the crossing reenactment in shorts and it was 65 degrees. Now it looks like 12 plus inches coming to the Jersey Shore. Time to hit the liquor store for supplies.

Around here in Chester (NW NJ), we're supposed to get 5 to 8. Al is definitely in the eye of the hurricane; he tells me they might get 24 {eek3}

Saturday is a great day to stay inside.

Brad

DC/Baltimore are in the bulls eye for a major snowstorm this Fri/Sat. They are calling for a minimum of 18" with 24+" likely for large portions of the region. Supposed to be in the Top 3 all-time worst storms for the region. Oh joy. -- Al

Good luck to anyone who's in the path of this one, or worse yet, in the dreaded "bulls eye" area; that means you Al, sorry buddy.

We're being spared here, only a few inches Saturday night into Sunday morning, then clearing just in time for me to get out of here and watch the games.....................best of luck everyone, these are never fun.

Got about an inch of snow today at rush hour, from a fast moving zephyr. Has made a TOTAL disaster of the roads. DC area is one huge parking lot, people trapped in cars, abandoning cars, can't get home or taking hours to make a 30 minute drive. I can hardly wait to see what the real snow on Friday will do to this area. We will probably be declared a Federal Disaster area, with the National Guard and FEMA called in to dig out the area.:rolleyes2: If the looters get near me and my TS collection, you'll hear about my last stand on Fox News at 11pm. They can have my TS when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers! -- Al

Don't worry Al, looters don't like cold weather, you will be OK!

One of the reasons I left the DC area was the god awful traffic. Even on the best of days it is unbearable. Add in some snow or an accident and it becomes a nightmare. I can remember my dad commuting into DC in the 70s without ever hitting his breaks between home and work. I'm not sure what happened to create all the traffic. Imagine if everyone who rides the subway drove. In some respect, though, the subway may have contributed to the problems by encouraging more and more people to move to the DC suburbs. With many people in the government teleworking from home you would think it might get better, but that doesn't seem to be the case. At least the big one is coming mostly on the weekend.

Well, this is one of the reasons why I am moving out of Maryland and the North in general. I hate , I mean hate the snow, I would be happy to never see another flake, just not worth it. I have an office in Southlake, Texas that I am seriously considering as a new location. If we get over 24 inches, that will be the straw that breaks the proverbial back. I just hate this crap, can you tell?

I asked my wife this morning if she has a realtor she prefers????

Stay safe, and keep looking forward to the Westcoaster and the 80 degree March weather in Cali!

Saturday, snow and blizzard and I am in the bullseye!!! OMG, whatever will save me!!!! How will I ever survive!!! Let me think ........... Monday, low to mid 40's....... Can I possibly make it 48 hours......... Just not going to open the door until Tuesday...... Now if the cable TV goes down, then that changes everything, and we call it a National Emergency.....

Tom, If you left this area, we, who have met you, would be the poorer for not having you around locally...Michael

I had a snow strategy that involved never shoveling my driveway or snow blowing if there was anyway possible to get my car out without doing so. All my neighbors, however, being primarily of PA German/Dutch heritage begin to clean their driveways to pristine condition the second it stops snowing. After observing this for a number of years, my wife now demands that I give it a go. I'm hoping the snow blower won't start after sitting idle all summer though. I always love it when you get the driveway clean and the guys who plow the roads come along and pile up a three foot high wall of snow at the end of the driveway. If you don't clear that out it starts to melt and refreeze becoming an impregnable wall of ice that would take dynamite to clear. That gave me an idea for a flame thrower type device to clear the driveway but apparently tort law makes that a risky undertaking. Another example of the government crushing the entrepreneurial spirit that made America great!

The weather pipple have upped the snow estimates in our area to 24"-30". The heaviest snow is predicted to be right over central Md., which includes all of my county, my son's county and part of DC, where my daughter is. I have never seen a snow prediction as high as 30"+ for this area. Gonna be interesting. -- Al

Can't blame Tom. It's just more pleasant anywhere else where there isn't snow. Tom would like to go to Texas, we'd like to go to Southern California.

There you go Tom. It will never snow on this driveway

But what is this "snow" you Americans fear? :)

Good luck AL, sounds like a top 3 storm!!! as I've said in the past I love snow more then anyone and would wish I was there to enjoy this one!! yea, the driving sucks, and it certainly brings some headaches and backaches with it but to me nothing better then walking down in a quiet section of the woods, finding a old stomp to sit on and watch and listen to the snow fall on the fallen leaves, slay riding!! snow cream, it's all good to me as I wake up to near highs of 80 today :(...hope you guys post some pics for us snow lovers!!...Sammy

The bigger concern than the snow for me will be the high winds on Saturday. I can see the dreaded third world power outages coming since they never bury our power lines but instead allow millions of people to lose power with every major storm. We don't even have water when the power goes out. I once tried to melt some snow using my propane grill and got about a tea spoon from an entire bucket. The next time I filled my garbage can up beforehand only to discover after the power went out that it had a leak and there wasn't a single drop of water left.

Thanks, Sammy. Looks like we're going to need all the luck we can get. Like I say, I've never heard predictions like the weather people are throwing around. One of them said up to 3 feet. Sure hope that is wrong. I'm long past the age where I found snow amusing. I'm beginning to think a home in Panama or Costa Rica would meet my needs nicely.:wink2: -- Al

Jeez, sure am glad I moved to Southern California! Don't misunderstand me, I still love New England, the BoSox, Patriots, Celts, and Bruins, but winters and summers . . . no!
