Well, gentlemen, the catalogs are loaded and the WWII range is officially launched. As discussed, it is the Battle of Stalingrad with a focus on the fighting in the October/November timeframe just up to and including Operation Hubertus (i.e. before the snows). While the figures can certainly be drafted into service elsewhere on both the eastern and even western front, we have tried to create as uniquely a "Stalingrad" look and "feel" to them as possible. We hope that those of you out there with an interest and knowledge of the battle will agree that we have succeeded in this endeavor.

The first 17 figures in the range will be shipping in mid-late June and will be immediately followed up with additional figures and other "accessories" on a very consistent basis. We have extremely big plans for this range and will give it the same type of treatment that we are giving the Napleonic battles that we cover with our Napoleon's Europe range. Really, there is a lot to create in order to do such a titanic battle the justice that it deserves, so just assume that if it's relevant to the battle, we'll get to it.

To save you all the time, while you are all free to speculate on what we will (or should!) do next, we're not going to talk about that now as we'd like to keep the spotlight on what we're doing now. Suffice it to say, the name of the range isn't "Stalingrad" it's "World War II: The Arms and Armies of WWII 1939-1945" so there will be other theaters offered at some point. Right now, though, we have our hands full with this one. We're extremely proud of the range and feel that it represents our finest sculpting to date and we hope you agree that the figures were worth the long wait through all of the rumors and what not over the past several months. For those of you who don't collect Eastern Front, all I can say is that it's a fascinating conflict from a military perspective and is well worth a second look, be it via our figures or through the figures of anyone else who covers the conflict.

Anyway, please visit our website to take a look - I normally post images and such, but just don't have the strength right now.

Regards,

Matt

Impressive figures and I'm sure collectors interested in that theater will be thrilled. I look forward to seeing what ranges appear in the future and wonder if there are any plans for non-combat poses at some stage?

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, there are most definitely plans for non-combat poses. My overall design plan (the fun part of what I do!) has many sets in it that are non-combat including several vignette type sets that can be placed off towards the back of a larger battle display or would be perfect for an overall smaller display by themselves. All in good time, but the short answer is most definitely.

Good to hear, I'm more into the smaller displays myself, but lots of them

Very nice figures indeed, really very good.It will be good to watch this series develop in the future.I like the in depth idea you have for the range,it will give the potential purchaser confidence that he is embarking on a range that will be around for sometime.:)

I just placed my order for both sets. When I was a student at the Marine Command & Staff College a few years back, I did my campaign paper on the battle of Stalingrad. I can tell that these figures were well researched.

Kudos to you Matt on a superb job all the way around on these figures.
I'm looking forward to the next releases.
Semper Fi!

Thanks Rick, much appreciated. Alas, it's nice to hear you have such an interest in the battle - I do as well as it's long been my favorite WWII battle (not just coincidence that we started here!) - and your background and obvious knowledge makes the compliment you've paid the figures mean that much more.

Matt

Matt-
Excellent work by you and your team! The posing in each figure is so unique, can't stop looking at them.....

You guys keep raising the bar with each new release. I hope this line does well, as I am full of anticipation as to what you can do with it in the future. We as collectors appreciate your hard work over the months that has culminated in this release. Thanks.

Matt-
I like them all, but my favorites in order on the German side are 004, 005 and 001. Those are classic Stalingrad poses. Nice touch with the Russian figure holding the MP40.

Matt,

While my interest lies more in the later battles of WWII this first release simply looks too good to pass up.

If this first release is an indication of the type of research that will go into this range then I know where much of my TS budget will be going. Well done! :)

These are great figures! Perfect for small or large dioramas. Very museum-like. Good luck with these! As for me, I'm still waiting for the FL Wellington! :D

simply the best yet again,so tempting but will have to hold strong on the naps for now.

Guys, does anyone know if these are limited run?

Rob

I'm the same way Frank,

I just pre-ordered all 17. Their just to good not to explore Stalingrad in TS form. I can see the fires and smell the smoke in this meat grinder epic.

And when Matt get around to the late War, I'm there.

Bring on that 3ft. building.

Cheers

Bump..

I'm wondering the same thing Rob.

In regards to "limited run". Unlike our Napoleonics, where we say "Limited to 500" or "Limited to 250" or what not, we're not going to formally state any limit to these. That being said, our initial run on these figures was between 200 and 300, doing anymore than this at our quality level just takes too long and costs us too much to produce, particularly as a direct sales company where we ourselves hold nearly all of the inventory and don't parcel it out to dealers for them to hold it. Doing a reorder later means we're not making new figures, so a re-order is unlikely, though not impossible. Thus, at some point, these figures will be "retired" and put on the shelf, we do not intend on offering them indefinitely. Really we just have no idea how well they'll sell and until the range is out for some time and we get a better idea, we're approaching it conseratively. Remember, we're only a year old and our customers at this point could all be considered "early adopters" - think of how few of you collected K&C the very first year they made figures. My guess is that in five years from now, everything we currently have in all of our toy soldier catalogs will be long gone and highly sought after.

From a customer perspective, there seems to be two schools I see amongst you. Those who want everything to be produced in low quantity for it's collectibility and those who want everything to be produced in high enough quantity so it is around for awhile and they have to chance to buy it later should they not buy it upon initial release. It can be challenging to please both crowds. However, as we are businesses, it is our goal to produce about the amount that we'll sell so that we don't produce too few and lose sales and don't produce too many so that we have inventory laying around forever.
