Let slip the dogs of (world) war... (2 Viewers)

Thanks Reb, much appreciated. Hmmm...with a collection that large, it might be worth doing it if only to serve your needs in this area alone. :D

Since you bring it up a bit - let me put it to you: if you could have us do a Civil War range, what would you like to see us make? Would it be early war, late war, eastern theater, western theater, winter in those slick greatcoats, or the height of summer? Ragged rebs in gray or is butternut more your thing? Any particular battle or campaign?

I'd be curious to hear what ACW folks like yourself are looking for. Bear in mind in your suggestions our approach to doing ranges - that is that we'll pick something very specific and do it until it's done and that we'll do lots of unit formations with variations on a theme as we do for our Naps...

Matt

Hi Matt,

Since you asked...

I would thoroughly enjoy seeing any one of the follow three battles represented in your terrific products:

Eastern Theatre: Battle of Chancellorsville

Western Theatre: Siege of Vicksburg

Trans-Mississippi Theatre: Battle of Elkhorn Tavern (Pea Ridge).

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I myself would love to see ACW by FL,top on my list would be Gettysburg, especially The Little Roundtop section of the battle or maybe the Battle of Shiloh..

As other members have mentioned Gettysburg and Antietam are the two battles that would immediately come to mind. However, they both have been very well covered by other TS manufacturers-And one would ask how many more Iron Brigade up to their necks in corn-stalks and Lo Armistead running up Cemetery Ridge with his hat on his sword do ACW collectors really need. If of course you don't have these various sets from Britains; Conte; Frontline; ONWC etc then they most probably would appeal.

I have a lot of sympathy with my good colleague Shiloh's request for the Western Theater as he must have been waiting a decade for someone to produce anything to do with this part of the war-afterall the war was won in this area and not in Virginia-the army of Northern Virgina was destroyed in the east but the war was already lost for the South twelve months before Appomattox in the West. Trouble is apart from Grant and Sherman the other combatants names do not trip off the tongue as easily as Lee; Stuart; Jackson; Longstreet and Pickett do hence possibly why manufacturers have concentrated on the famous battles known by the public at large. (I'm only guessing here by the way)

My request would more than likely be as much in the minority as Shiloh's is and that would be Grant's Overland Campaign 1864-65-most peoples knowledge of the war ends at Gettysburg and picks up again at Lee's surrender almost two years later but The Wilderness; Spotsylvania; Cold Harbor; The Siege of Petersburg; Saylor's Creek and Five Forks saw some of the most ferocious fighting of the war and many many sheer acts of patriotic courage from the officers and soldiers on both sides.

Although that would be my request (as you kindly asked) even if you decided to stick with Gettysburg and Antietam- rest assured I would buy whatever you produced even though I currently have at least ten different sets for each battle. The quality; sculpt; detail and paint finish of your product would make them irresistible-trust me!

I'm kind of thinking of Gettysburg just because it's in the collectors' or the public's imagination.

Everytime I watch the movie Gettysburg and watch the Little Roundtop battle I want to order a couple of hundred ACW soldiers. Can somebody tell me this,at the time of the battle Little Roundtop hadn't been named yet. That's what I read once.

Fantastic to see how FL attract more and more interest. Fully deserved I think. As the thread developped into a 'wish list' ;), I would subscribe as well to ACW (any theater) but would sign with both hands for a decent Vietnam range. Will probably be the only one though :(. I particularly look forward - for now - to get the Old Guard Chasseurs, as I think these figures look stunning...and am curious as to the next samurai figures... And this week the Nap set will arrive...pouh...collectors heaven.

While ASW is another range I don't have much interest in collecting, I would love to see my friend Bob get figures for his mesmerizing dios with the level of accuracy and detail you are doing for Napoleonics, and now WWII.;) That is assuming of course, we continue to receive the trickle down benefit for the mother line. Now if you grant his any particular battle request before......something else happens, I will have a whole separate set of observations.;):D

On the new line wish list subject pre and early Imperial Rome would be rather nice, IMHO.

I'll throw my two cents in on the ACW. How about the Western theatre? The grand charge at Franklin or Shiloh or Chickamauga or Kennesaw or Peach Tree Creek or ... -- lancer

I for one would like to see Chickamauga. It has western confederates with different flags than the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. It has Longstreet's corps at the battle. On the Union side, it has Mounted Infantry on mules, and southern Unionists from Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee. IMO you could do some great scenes.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions guys. As I probably should have known before I asked - everyone wants what they want and each want something different! There was one particular suggestion that was made which is a little different than what's been done previously that I have a very strong personal affinity to, but I'll keep to myself now for which one it was! As I said anyway, I've been getting the itch, but that doesn't necessarily mean any range is forthcoming...at least not in 2009.

On another note, I think I've hijacked my own WWII thread!

Congratulations on your latest range Matt, they look very good indeed. As a Napoleonic and WW1 collector who has for many years focussed solely on those Theatres, I must admit to being tempted. Great news for all WW2 collectors who I am sure will appreciate the true quality of your outstanding figures. I am delighted with my British Gaurds

Thank You, excellent customer service. Highly reccomended

I think I've hijacked my own WWII thread!

Yes, lets get back please, what this thread is about WWII-Stalingrad series..

Well, looks like its safe enough to post here again seeing as the monthly event is taking place elsewhere.
Phew...was terrified to even show my heid for a while there in case the snaps and snarls started up - practically had it bitten off - again.

Anyway, while distractions are taking place:-

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, yet another song kept buzzing through my mind. Given that the new range is the Eastern Front, which has a reputation as being one of the most brutal of WWII - although I would dispute that and suggest that all fronts were brutal - especially the China-India-Burma Campaign.
Anyway, a question to Mr FL. Did you have this particular song in mind when the initial post was, eeeeerrrr, posted?

Dogs of War – Pink Floyd – from “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”.
(Although I prefer the live version on the “Delicate Sound of Thunder” album).

Dogs of war and men of hate; there's no cause we don’t discriminate,
Discovery is to be disowned; our currency is flesh and bones,
Hell opened up and put on sale, gather round and haggle,
How casual we lie and deceive, even our masters don’t know the webs we weave,
One world it’s a battleground, one world we will smash it down,
One world, one world,

Invisible transfers and long distance calls, hollow laughter in marble halls,
Steps have been taken, and silent uproar, unleash the dogs of war,
Can’t stop what has begun, signed and sealed, they deliver oblivion,
We all have our dark side to say the least; dealing in death is the nature of the beast,
One world it’s a battleground, one world they will smash it down,
One world, one world,

Dogs of war won’t negotiate, dogs of war won’t capitulate,
They will take, and you will give, you will die, so that they may live,
You can knock at any door, wherever you go you know they’ve been there before,
Well winners can loose and things can get strange,
Wherever you stray you know the dogs remain,
One world it’s a battleground, one world they’re gonna smash it down,
One world, one world.

Cheers

What i really like about these new Stalingrad figures is the slightly dusty look to them,it does certainly bring to life the look of the early part of the Battle.I think it will be good to watch this series grow over the coming months.

Yes ive noticed their monthly is out:D see they have new naps, nice figures but when you see FLs well ..............................do they compare?

Fantastic figures but my only concern is the prices are steadily going up,from $34.95 when the first figures came out to now 49.95 a pretty hefty rise for relatively a small production thus far.

I realise that Matts costs are probably going up in the current climate so understandable and still feel they are worth it for the quality we're getting but i do hope they dont get to the connoisseur price range too soon as some of us layman may be hard pressed to...................

I'm not all that interested in the Germans, but I really like the Russian figures and I'm considering getting some of them, but not to use at Stalingrad. I'm thinking about something along the lines of using them with some Japanese figures to recreate some of the border clashes in Manchuria pre-1941. I reckon they’ll be compatible with the old Airfix plastic Japanese WWII figures which I think have been re-released. Might be able to get them in HK. If not, then I’ll get my brother to send them to me from the UK.
I’m particularly interested in this wee project cos I actually live in what-used-to-be-Manchuria, or Manchukuo as it was known during the Japanese occupation. To this day in Dalian China, you can still see some of the old houses that were built to accommodate the Japanese settler immigrants who were "transplanted" for the Japanese Governments version of “Living Space”. I’ll see if I can post some photos of them next time I’m home.
