UMd now 22-11 on the season, which has exceeded my expectations. Dez Wells is on fire. -- Al

Now let's hope the Terps can win maybe win one more to put them in the big dance, anyone that wins 22 games, beat Duke twice, plus a few other ranked teams through the year and competes in the ACC should get in even with the losses, but sounds like the Terps are on the bubble outside looking in, we'll see...Sammy

In last night at the Big East GU and the Orange played a great last game. Glad to see the BE is being reconstituted but it's sad that there will be no more UConn or Syracuse in the Big East. Even Boheim is upset but that's business. Having football in the BE was a mistake.

Co-worker was plsd that U of Louisville made it into the ACC when the Big East was imploding, until I menetioned they would get to play Duke & UNC twice a yr plus tournament time. A look of dismay crossed his face at that point. :wink2:

Louisville looked good against ND, no problem. UK probably out with 3 losses out of last 4 games even though they beat Florida.
Chris

UMd against UNC today, at 3pm EST. I think the Terps win against Duke should get them into the dance but a win against UNC would certainly clinch it. Terps are on fire at the right time but can't afford a bad game against UNC. Must play it tight as a bad loss might end the season. At least both teams will be equally tired. -- Al

Boeheim probably ticked off the ACC when he said given the choice of NY or Greensboro for the conference tournament he said "Jeez, let me think about that one and get back to you."

Seriously, is there even a question :rolleyes2:

The few Northwestern fans that exist are left wondering if Bill Carmody will be back for next year. He's our all time winningest coach, he took us to the NIT four straight years, and (other than this year where we've been decimated by injury) he's made the Wildcats respectable. All that with the absolute worship facilities and fan base in the country and amazingly tough academic requirements (our president has been proud to say that some of the players that play for Duke (another elite school) wouldn't even be admitted to NU).

There is a growing call for Carmody's head. I say keep him around...given what he has to work with he's exceeded expecations (in a position that Bill Foster, Kevin O'Neil, and Tex Winters couldn't find success). With players back from injury next year, we may actually make a run at the NCAA tournament (for the first time ever).

Don't forget, the first ever NCAA Championship game was held at Patten Gym at Northwestern in 1939. Unfortunately, the 'Cats were not playing...

For decades, UM was the northern most school in the conference, until BC joined, and always had to play ACC tournament at Toabacco Road. Maybe the focus will shift with the new additions. Chris

Pete, just saw the newsflash that Carmody was fired. That is too bad. He deserved better from the sound of things. -- Al

Terps lose by 3, 79-76. They went down fighting and never gave up even after trailing by 12 a couple of times in the 2nd half. Had a chance to tie at the end, but threw up a 3 point prayer that was way off. Oh well, they played it tight and I think they deserve a shot at the dance. -- Al

Now comes the real test...who can they bring in to replace him. If they don't have someone in the wings this may turn into a disaster. This is a coaching graveyard...but the expectations are pretty low. Get to the NCAA Tournament once every 5 years and you'll be loved forever!

It worked in football because we got a good coach who came from NU..and is 100% committed to the school. Unfortunately, I can't think of any former hoops players who coach.

I really hope Carmody can find a good position somewhere...he deserves it.

Hi Al,
Proud of the Terp tournament play, but that was terrible shot selection at game's end. THere was another 6 sec left for a good look. Turnover in last minute or so really hurt. Think they are deserving as well but not feeling the love of the selection committee. Chris

Yeah, the last 3-point attempt was a panic shot. Had time for a better look, at least one a little closer in. And you are right, that last turnover was a killer. ACC is going to have a tough time in the selection process this year. UMd is more deserving than several others, like UVa. -- Al

As far as football the Wildcats and the rest of the Big 10 are going to have a tough time dealing with Urban Meyer at OSU. Not bad for his first year coaching the only undefeated team in the country. It’d be nice to see a repeat of that feat now that they are free to compete in the post season.

Maybe NU Basketball should look into Brad Stevens from Butler or some other bright young coach with a lot of talent. The upside to Stevens is that he is comfortable coaching in institutions that place a higher priority on academics. He even knows how to win a little bit in this type of environment.

Not that I'm an Orange fan but I wish they had won the last Big East tournament of which they were a part.

Didn't happen:(I guess the Terps are heading to the NIT, but not a bad year overall, beating Duke twice and some other good wins in there as well, just those losses to some weaker teams killed them, but they are a good young team that will make some noise in thier new conference next year...Sammy

P.S. let's go U.of A. Wildcats!!!

Agree with this, Sammy. Providing, of course, that half the team doesn't go the NBA route.:wink2: I think the Terps could have gotten in to the dance had they not lost a 17 point lead and the game the last time they played UVa. That loss killed them in the standings. Only 4 teams for the ACC, sort of a down year. -- Al

Yeah, that VA loss was the killer. No excuses, they have only themselves to blame. Still, two Duke wins = great yr. Good team, good coach. Chris

Ohio State moving on to the Elite Eight!

73-70 over Arizona

To bad Indiana blew the chance at an all Big 10 Final Four.
