here is the start of DM John Goodman of the London Scottish, based on a famous photo. There was an excellent large scale model 100mm of him done by David Grieves and a smaller 54mm model of him by Art Girona. The latter doesnt look quite right so I've decided to sculpt my own. John Goodman was very tall and well-built and I selected a 1/24 scale head to start sculpting. Legs were based on cut-down 1/24 parts. I've posed the figure next to a Historex striding figure for height comparison.

Hi Mike,

thanks for posting the photo. Good visual ref.

I've worked on the legs, creating spats.

I'm taking reference from this drawing by Jack Cassin-Scott from an old Blandford book Infantry Uniforms.

I attached the legs to the body. Now adjusting the limbs and overall anatomy. Remember that the limbs and head are 1/24 scale but reduced in length to fit a tall large man scaled at 1/32.

I have this figure. One day I hope to build this and do it justice. I can take pictures of the figure if you want?
cheers

Hello David,

Thanks. I think that you are referring to the 110mm kit. It would be great, especially a pic of the back side (two words...) showing the pleated kilt and the shoulder overhang. Also a clear pic of the drum mace front and back if you are able to do so.

Why don't you build yours too? It would bring back memories.

Hi
To be honesty I m not sure. I played with the Toronto Scottish many years ago. We had a chance to visit the London Scottish and play with there pipes and drums. Good times. One day when I finish all the other projects. I’ll take the pictures sometime today or tomorrow. Great figure.
cheers

I adjusted the proportions on the figure. Reduced the sideburns and beard and hat. The legs were pinned and epoxied to the figure. The arms were also pinned.

Good Day.
I have the pictures but I can’t upload them to the site. Blaster can I send to your email.
cheers

Hi David,

I rcv the pics and am placing them on this thread. Wonderful details and thanks!
The mace and back are very clear. Just noticed the embroidered right sleeve details. I presume that this is the same for the left sleeve too?

Hi
I will take more pictures for you tomorrow. I believe the other sleeve has no rank on it. Glad I could help.

Hello David,

Thanks once again. If I can return the favour with any ref info, just holler.

Here's the build update. I sanded down the shape as much as possible to approximate the visual references. Then I added the pleated kilt, made from two historex parts (as this figure has a large girth) and the front apron from a thick sheet of lead foil.

Once the overall shape is established, I will start to add the details. BTW, the hp pics have some distortion as these are closeups.

Looking really good. If you need anymore from a different angle let me know.
Cheers

Hi David,

So far, I'm OK with the refs at hand. I also found an old MM cover featuring this figure!!

I decided to saw the figure in half and shorten the midruff. Here is the end result.

So after checking the proportions, I decided that the midruff had to be put back. So further sawing and here's the result.
