Shame on you for desacralizing such a master piece from the past .... and best luck .

Sorry
I believed wrongly that you were working on the original from RealModel
I've seen now that it's a creation/transformation
Forget what I said

Looking good blaster. I’m sure you will do a great job. I can give you a good picture of Hodden Grey later if you wish.
Stay Safe my friend.

Hello Dave,

thanks for your comment but I think more work is needed.

Although it is not obvious in the first pic, as I start to delineate the figure, it appears to be leaning to one side.
So rather than cut up the midriff again, I've decided to alter the pose and reposition the head.

Notice the repositioned left arm which shows clearly the asymmetric pose. The unaltered head also shows this asymmetry.
Before I reposition the head, I've decided to resculpt it as I found some pics showing the head sculpt from an old MM issue.

Here, I've decided to bulk the figure out even more. Notice the head which has still to be repositioned.
I used a metal strip to impress the belt into the putty and then created some creases.

Here's a pic from an old MM mag. I cull the articles I want and rebind them for referencing.

I've resculpted the face.

Here's the full figure. I'm still reducing the head size and gradually increasing the shoe size. This is more fun than digital sculpting...:)

Finally, I sculpted the back pleats. Not so difficult as I had thought. I read that the kilt was wrapped and fastened on the right side with a kilt pin, with the fringed edge on the right side. These details are not obvious in the illustrations. The shoes and spats are being worked upon.

The head and cap has been sculpted. Then I sculpted the sporran. The 110mm model shows the bottom edge of the sporran hair as trimmed off and hung level with the kilt. However, the photo shows an untrimmed sporran which hung below the kilt.

I sculpted the what-you-call-it ? tunic skirts but these are too small (as per my references) so will be adjusted later.

Finally I noted that the figure is a little too short. Hence, I have sawn the midriff (again!) to lengthen the kilt (will show this later).

I've been following this thread, and I am amazed at how this figure came together!:salute:: It looks just like the photo of the fat guy!

Hi David,

thanks for the pics. I am now consolidating all the info and will post them on this thread.

Hi Louis,

I like modelling hefty figures. They always look more substantial. Anyway, if one looks at the original photo of the DM John Goodman, he wasn't as fat as the RM sculpture. I had tried to base my sculpting on the painting by Jack Cassin-Scott which was quite close to the photo. Hence I separated the midriff and elevated the figure, thus lengthening the kilt. I also subtly repositioned the pose to arch his back.

I am checking my uniform references. The tunic is known as a doublet and this comes with four Inverness skirts.

The sporran has been repositioned and the Inverness skirts will be enlarged next.

David very kindly sent me more pics of the RM casting for reference. These show the shoulder tabs, the DM sash and the doublet details.
