London show on 24th (2 Viewers)

You guys are all waiting with such anticipation I might just have to break down and watch too.:) First games are Saturday?

I don't follow the game as it has a low profile in Australia. We are mainly Rugby League or Australian Rules supporters downunder where players don't wear helmets etc like in that sissy yank game :)

Anyway, for the heck of it I googled some info and discovered that the Socceroos have previously been disadvantaged in world competition because of several factors such sudden death games. However with Australia's move to the Asian section our team should get more experience and have a more even chance in the world competitions.

The change of the offical organisation in Australia to Football Federation Australia (no longer soccer) is also expected to provide a better profile for the game downunder. We may not win this cup, but maybe we'll take it next time. We are a land of thieves some say, but as most of us came from England that shouldn't surprise :D

I think Brazil will take it out this time ,Too much talent floating around in that side.I still think france have a good shot although they are getting a little long in the tooth but if Thierry Henry plays Well anything could happen.
Germany also will be tough to beat at home [pretty boring brand of football
though] and not good enough to go all the way i think.Holland looks like a very good side also ,And England will get knocked out in a penalty shoot out ;) .
[and wouldnt that hurt more than a little].

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh .

Don't mention penalty shoot outs. The writing is on the wall already.

Frank Lampard and Peter (The Robot) Crouch have already missed in the last 2 games.
There seems no way that England can win a penalty shoot out. Let's just pray it never comes down to it.

Oh and Oz how about cricket down under? Don't you like it or have the poms knocked the enjoyment out of it for you? :)

Now this is the kind of friendly sport banter that should be happening on the threads (non of this stabbing people).

Oz the only true way the ROOS will get the cup is by nicking it!!!!:D
US if they change the rules and let you pick it up and wear protection!!!!!
France Cisse has broken his leg (yesterday) and looks like the front of France will be effected.
Brazil very good chance

And eazy yeah penalty shoot outs aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgghhhh they have my 8 year old girl on the squad for them (better chance)

But we have RRRRRRRRRRRRROooooooooooooney back

Shannon yep saturday kick off for England at 4pm. Germany kick off on Friday at 5pm as hosts against Costa Rica.

Andy - we agree to disagree on pricing in UK :) but i agree with your Football pundit (accept i would like to see England beat Brazil 2-1;) )

Tony

You never know with those ausies ,they have had reasonable warm up form
Beating greece and drew with holland ,although their group is a killer .If England make it too the quarters:D
It will be a middle of the night trip to the local pub [we have a fair few expat poms where i live ]to watch the game,Although i do hate to see grown men cry:p

Shannon,

The first match in the Cup is tomorrow. The hosts always have the first match and then it's off to the races!! If I could I'd take off the rest of the month until July 9.

Tomorrow, game time is 12 noon EST and 3 Pm EST.

Looks like you guys are in trouble: Only a 50% percent chance Stevie will be ready for the opener, according to the BBC.

Gents,

Firstly, Tony happy to agree on disagreeing. But more importantly Gerrard could be out for Saturday. I would love to see England beat Brazil but I have this sneaky feeling.

Is this chat going to be moved to an other issues part of the forum, as it seems to be a bit strange to be on the London Show part.

Oh no!!!!!

What games are on during the show??????? Is K&C UK going to provide a massive plasma screen with Live football being televised, while we meander round the stalls. I hope so.

The Germans looked surprisingly good.
You just know they are going to make it to at least the semi's. How do they do it?

Hi,

I thought the Germans were pretty poor. With all due respect to Costa Rica they were a somewhar limited team, and most teams in the Premiership would have created as many chances, but they were able to get Paulo Wanchope through on goal with a simple ball (should have done it a few more times). Against a decent team, they would be slaughtered at the back, and wouldn't have had the space they enjoyed against CR it will be interesting to see how Ecuador get on against them as they played well against a somewhat hesitant Poland side.

Main observation against the German side was beside the very square defence, there was no one who could link the play from defence to midfield, in fact there was a wide chasm separating them, Henry, Ronaldo, Shevchenko and hopefully the English lads would be licking their lips.

Germany should still get through to the knockout but not much further, Ecuador will be the other qualifier and maybe win the group. I think at present I'd rather England play Germany.

The Butterflies are just starting to fly, not long to go.........

Andy

I thought Ecuador played rather well. Of course, they were helped by the Poles sleepwalking through the match until the last 10 minutes or so when they hit the woodwork twice. They have a very good chance to go through although I wouldn't say it's a cinch yet. The Poles may still do something.

Besides the England match tomorrow, I think Argentina Ivory Coast will be very interesting and very close.

The only thing that popped up during Germany - Equador, was: What is Jens Lehmann doing???

You could just see Kahn grinning and laughing. I think he knows he'll be playing the next match...

I had expected more from the Germans against Equador, but it wasn't all too dashing football. I was actually pleasantly surprised by Equador, they weren't that bad. I think the other teams will have to look out for Wanchope...
