With the expansion of the Africa range I wonder if the Long Range Desert Patrol will be making an appearance any time soon. These slightly irregular troops could make for some interesting figures etc. Many nationalities joined these units and they lead to the SAS being established as a serious force.
I wonder if a fellow contributer who works at the IWM could post a picture of the Dodge truck recovered from the desert (in amazing condition considering its age and environment);) .

Bloody hell what a coincidence!I was just thinking that a certain Mr Gambale might like a picture of it,will see what i can do on Monday when i return there.Trouble is i have never sent an picture in an email or posted a pic,so i 'll ask the wife or who knows a lot more about PC.S than i do.But even if i have to airmail a pic to Peter i'll get one to you.

I believe the truck was found in the 1970's in the desert, they put some oil in it and it started up pretty much straight away!.

The first allied desert stuff K&C ever produced were Long Range Desert Group Chevy 30 cwt Trucks and SAS Desert Jeeps. Andy added a desert Bren Gun Carrier and Desert Quad, Limber and 25 Lb. Field Gun to this range (and even did a one of a kind wood desert Sherman). They are extremely rare and valuable, and (even though I have all of these items in my collection) I for one have been begging Andy to revisit the Long Range Desert Group for years.

Thanks for the quick response gentlemen>
Rob I didn't mention you by name as I was unsure if it was your good self I was conversing about the merrits of Duxford over IWM at the K&C UK event at christmas (I was the new boy on the front row. Its all your fault that the wife thinks I'm spending far to much time on this forum). If you can find out anymore history to that vehicle it would be great to hear.
As to the info from our Louis as someone very new to the forum and relatively new to K&C collecting any info on previous releases or even pictures is always welcome . Coffee break over time for work:(

Louis,so as you say these Early EA items are very valuable but do they stand up quality wise?.How do they compare with todays releases in your view?

In my opinion, the resin and metal Chevy 30 CWT Truck is one of the 2-3 finest vehicles K&C ever produced, and is better than anything anyone else but Figarti ever produced.

The wood and metal Bren Gun Carrier is also an excellent piece, with absolutely no flaws.

The metal SAS jeep is another excellent piece without noticable flaws.

The wood and metal Quad, Limber and Field Gun is also very nice, with the only drawback being the painted on windows and lack of an interior.

The wood Sherman has a gorgeous paint job, and has excellent track details, but lacks opening hatches.

The sculpting of the figures that came with these vehicles are about 1997-1999 production quality, so not up to todays standards, but they are well painted in a nice matt finish.

If one of these sets become available, and you can get it, I highly recommend it. They are among my favorites.
