M4 with fording stacks - first look... (1 Viewer)

It looks awesome Rob; I'm jealous yet again :p! Great pics and congrats on making such a sweet score; it's quite an impressive-looking vehicle.

Can some one take a head on shot of the insignia vehicle bumper markings for me. Thanks

I have one of the front. The rear markings are identical and there are no other insignia on the rear.

You can see the error in the marking - the regimental designator should be "66" not "86". Otherwise it is correct.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the photo of the markings, I was afraid of that. You are correct about the regimental markings being an error. Incase anyone is wondering here is a lay down of what the Division came ashore with in Normandy:

2AD was divided in to 2 Combat Commands (CCA & CCB) based on the 2 Tank Regiments it was assigned.

CCA was the first ashore and was heavier. It was the 66th Armored Regiment (3 battalion regiment 1,2,3Bn), 2 Battalions of the 41st Armored Infantry, 14th and 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalions and A Company of the 17th Armored Engineer Battalion. Commander was General Rose.

CCB 67th Armored Regiment(3 Bn Regiment as well), 1 Battalion 41st Armored Infantry, 78th Armored Artillery Battalion B and E Companies Armored Engineers. Commanded By Colonel ID White.

There are a lot of other units I could mention but there was no 86th with 2nd AD in Normandy there was the 82d Reconnaisance Battalion That was used as Division Cavalry and as such was attached as needed to the Combat Commands. I will see if I can figure out why there was such an error on the markings of this really nice looking vehicle.

The simple explanation could be mistaking the 66 for an 86 from a photo or just a copy error.

Hi Phantom Warrior

I am pretty sure that was the reason for the error but I am going through the Order of Battle I have for the US Army by Division to see if I missed something. I may get this vehicle anyway because it is well done and would make a fine addition for my collection. I will get the markings corrected but otherwise I see no reason not to buy it.

Cheers Gary:

Just read & saw a picture of the "HURRICANE" stating that it was at the Bulge-in fact, it said there were a total of four that made it there in desperation. I was surprised but found it quite interesting all the same.

Hang Tough,
Marc
