The M8 is old news to you Veterans, but I was happy to come accross one for $89.00 (Combat thanks for finding it for me). I had a vision of a diorama with the 82nd (The 2 figures included) linking up with the either the 2nd, 3rd,4th Armored, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th or 8th Infantry Divisions who all landed while the 82nd was in Theater. Where does K&C come of with the crew members wearing the patch of the 3rd infantry Division who landed in Southern France on August 15th when the 82nd was in England? Where did they meet? And they call it a DD38 (D Day) set, very misleading. The M8 is very nice, I don't like the raised stars, and the 82nd figures are excellent. "Get Real" Firebat

Hi Guys being a history nut this one got my attention. So I did some re-reading and for the Invasion of Southern France and the Invasion of Italy and found the following:

Operation Dragoon.

The assault troops were formed of three American divisions of the VI Corps, reinforced with a French armoured division. The 3rd Infantry Division landed on the left at Alpha Beach (Cavalaire-sur-Mer), the 45th Infantry Division landed in the centre at Delta Beach (Saint-Tropez), and the 36th Infantry Division landed on the right at Camel Beach (Saint-Raphaël). At Cap Negre, on the western flank of the main invasion, a large group of French commandos landed to destroy German artillery emplacements (Operation Romeo). These were supported by other French commando groups landing on both flanks, and by Rugby Force, a parachute assault in the LeMuy-Le Luc area by the 1st Airborne Task Force: British 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade, the U.S. 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, (eventually was absorbed by the 13th Airborne Division and a composite U.S. airborne glider regimental combat team formed from the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion Which was an independent Battalion thoughout the war, the 550th Glider Infantry Battalion, and the 1st Battalion, 551st Parachute Infantry Regiment(Operation Dove). The 1st Special Service Force took two offshore islands to protect the beachhead (Operation Sitka). Operation Span, a deception plan, was carried out to shield the main invasion.

For Italy I have the following on the 82d:

On August 15, 1942, the 82nd Infantry Division became the first airborne division in the U.S. Army, and was redesignated the 82nd Airborne Division. In April 1943, paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division deployed to North Africa under the command of Major General Matthew B. Ridgway to participate in the campaign to invade Italy. The Division's first two combat operations were parachute and glider assaults into Sicily on July 9 and Salerno on September 13, 1943. The initial assault on Sicily, by the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, was the first regimental sized combat parachute assault conducted by the United States Army.
In January 1944, the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which was temporarily detached from the division to fight at Anzio, adopted the nickname "Devils in Baggy Pants," taken from an entry in a German officer's diary. While the 504th was detached, the remainder of the 82nd was pulled out of Italy in November 1943 and moved to the United Kingdom to prepare for the liberation of Europe.

So there is a good possibility that soldiers wearing the 82d patch and the 3rd Infantry Patch would have been seen or even photographed together during this sideshow invasion. Or that a photo from Italy could have been mismarked and labeled as one from the South of France. Either way I think these units would have seen a lot of each other during the fight for Europe.

Take Care

Dave

I can only answer part of your question. I think D Day is a generic term, a label if you will, that Andy uses for American soldiers in France during that time just as the Waffen Series groups Waffen soldiers and regular Wehrmacht and a Hitler Jugend set. They're broad classifciations for his various ranges. As far as the rest of it, don't have the knowledge.

Firebat-
Did you get everything that you were looking for? If so, you must be assembling one great collection. I have been stumped in my efforts to buy anything recently. Either through delays in releases or those russians. Talk about a nightmare. Think big money collectors that are all over it, a handful of new figures released literally one at a time on no certain date, high prices, nonresponsive dealers. Anyway enjoy.

All of the "Unreals" stay calm, this discussion requires a strong stomach. What makes this set inaccurate is the 509th PIB, the 517th PRCT, the 550th GIB and the 551st PIR took part in Operation Dove, the Airborne element of Dragoon. They were not part of the 82nd, the Field Dressings were worn on the helmet only in Normandy, and the Helmet camo was only worn in Normandy, and possibly the waterproof gas mask housing. The 82nd may have met the 3rdID but not in the uniform depicted by K&C. So the beautifully done 82nd men will be used in an appropriate diorama as will the M8. I love this stuff even more when I learn more about it. I am going to contact Mark Bando and Michael DeTrez to see if they can shed any more light on the subject, but I think that is the crux of it. They had everything I wanted, and at the original prices!!!! ...thanks again for checking for me. I passed on the Jimmy because I don't like that raised lettering, they should have used decals or tampo printing. My collection is nothing compared to most of the members here, but it is very specific. What I am doing is picturing a scene and only buying what applies as far as accuracy, and I am also mixing sets to achieve the desired results. There are some sets I will have to buy to get just one or two figures, like the British Taking Prisoners, just to get the prisoners. This method of collecting eases the wallet a bit. I have a check list, and I am slowly getting through it. So far I still have not bought any K&C Armor. I think HB is going to get around to doing everything I need. I wish they would hurry, the troops need more Armor!!!....Alex

Who's getting excited? All I was telling you is how Andy groups his ranges. I didn't comment on the rest of it as I don't get down to studying where particular units were on this or that date. I had (and have) no observations on whether it's inaccurate or not as I don't know enough to say yea or nay. That I leave to others. Won't affect my enjoyment of the piece however.

You probably know this but there are several dealers on ebay that just sell partial sets. If you need names, we can post 'em here.

Just a general statement for whoever reads it, It was not directed as you. I do get excited when things are not right. But that set worked out fine and like I said was very enjoyable. I have seen the individual figures, but I guess if you buy the whole set, when you put it back together it will have some value, like the Clown motorcycles. I have been not feeling too well since looking at them, please don't tell me how much they sell for. It will be like holding Kryptonite up to Superman:D . ..Alex

Since John (njja) and I are sort of the resident "experts" on ebay prices, here goes (for your amusement):

With Sidecar

Winter version $380 (June)
Summer version $31 (June) but it wasn't mint so $375 in December

Motorcyle With Rider (no sidecar)

$275 Glossy February
$320 (Summer colors, not glossy)

Your killing me.......Hey, I understand the technology was not there when they were made, and I am sure they were the best of their time, but it is just not my thing. I used to see that stuff around when I was heavy into 1/6th and 1/35th, Britians, K&C etc. and I thought I would buy it if they made it more realistic...and they did...and here I am knee deep in them. Brad, you present us with a double edged sword:confused: . It is really good to understand the pricing system and current sales prices. I like that:) . Your information has helped me to make purchasing decisions on several occassions. Thank you.

Now for the other side of that sword. By posting these prices, you are somewhat influencing them. If, and I say if, the seller is paying attention to this forum, they will expect a certain price for a particular model and could be possibly starting the bidding at a higher price than if they did not have that information. :( Now, I don't know if that is true; but, it is a possiblity.

I am not trying to stop you from doing what you are doing, infact I hope you keep it up (it saves me the $10 you charge for your list, cheap an't I).

I used to get concerned about the prices and pricing of K & C items on eBay, especially the high 'Buy It Now prices' that suggested that was the usual price for a piece.

The fact is that collectors will pay what they think is appropriate for them. I see people paying big money for toast that is said to have the image of Jesus, and imo there is little difference. Rarely can you change the opinion or indeed ignorance of other people, and there is little point in trying.

That would be strictly limited toast of course:D

I dont have a Holy Mary ,but my boys got a picture of spongebob that
might work, you could add a halo for extra value?

Regarding those prices, they are only a guide. As others have noted, people will pay what they want for a piece. I have seen some pieces go for much more than paid for previously or than I expected. So, at best, they're facts but not always necessarily helpful facts.

Hey Brad......try a little Mercurochrome when you pull those spears out of

your back for listing "Prices Realized". I suppose you should have started off

with an apology?

I believe the main purpose of this information, which Brad & I have provided

on occasion was not to influence the marketplace, but to advise a

prospective Buyer the price range, so he could determine if an item he saw

was a "Good Deal" or if perhaps he wanted it because he was tired of looking

for it.

I do not provide this information any longer except when asked via private

message, then I gladly provide the information I have, as others have

assisted me on many occasions. Oh yeah I must mention "No Charge" for my

arch nemesis benefit.

Brad if you list an occasional price in the future perhaps you should instruct

any potential sellers to "Look Away" less they be unduly influenced!!!!

Ha!

Jazzeum hasn't got any back stabs from me because I'm an up front type of guy. If I feel strongly enough about a post or thread I will make a response no matter who it is and then move on to the next subject. I don't hold grudges but there are certain aspects about eBay that I do not like such as high 'Buy It Now' prices, no matter who the seller is. I don't consider any forum member to be my "arch nemesis" and if a person feels that way I suggest that it is only in their mind, over which I have no control.
