Randy...Martyn...

thanks for the pictures...

I think Randy is about right...

a ragtag..eclectic..diversified group of ethnicities from the surrounding area...

I am relieved to see photos of different spear examples...especially the huge ones and think almost any and all are acceptable..

A comparison between the two available JJD Madhists and the WB one.

Jeff...thank you...

I appreciate the close ups...thanks...

You da man!

that's exactly what I wanted to see...

I was afraid the Wm. Brit would have a small spear head...similar to the assegai of the Zulus...

but both manufactures have modeled them with the extremely large heads...

I wonder if they were influenced by the Spartan or Greek spears...the length especially...

I had read that their swords were Crusader influenced...large also...

Here are the last 2 Osprey Mahdist Army illustrations I have.

The warrior on the camel has both types of spear points.

The WB Mahdist is similar to H1 in terms of hair, shield, curved sword and the patchwork uniform.

yes...quite a variety of different weapons...

but the theme seems big weapons...hahaha...unusually big weapons...(can I say that on here)...from the swords to the spear heads...

thanks a lot for your research Randy...

I think just about any type of spear JJD or Wm. Brit puts on these guys will be suitable...

apparently they had some variety...

I hope we see some of the Mahdi's army with rifles. There were a number of Martini-Henry's captured by them. Fortunately they were not especially good shots

They captured 300 Remington Rolling Block No1s from Hicks Pasha and his Egytians along with 3000,000 rounds of ammunition. They also took a couple of machine guns and some Krupp 77mm guns! Some of the Jehadia units were entirely riflemen, including ex-Egyptian army Fellahs.

Martin

Very nice examples of what I was referring to,

Randy

Great pictures all and I am glad I was wrong about the spears.
