Hello everyone! I'm new here and also not much of a forum/social media guy, however my eight year old has caught the toy soldier bug and we are having loads of fun! I love getting to be eight years old again myself, whilst we set up huge battles! So my specific question is; does anyone have recommendations for more recent and cost effective plastic figures that would fit in well with Marx 1960's British, German and American WWII figures? We have an original Marx Navarone mountain, as well as a Battleground D-Day set, which serve as the centre piece for most of our WWII battle scenarios. I'm slowly replacing the missing figures from Navarone with correct originals or reissues, but the vintage plastic is quite costly. These are figures we will actually be playing with! Gratitude in advance!

Cheers!

For one, I'd keep an eye on Ebay, as you can often get nice lots of Marx figures pretty reasonably. Also, Airfix has reissued most of their 1/32 scale figures and they are available also at a pretty reasonable price. And if you can get to any toy soldier show, or even large toy show you can likely pick up the Marx figures also for good prices. Sounds like a fun project. Hope he stays interested for a long time.

I would look at Airfix WW 2 reissues, Matchbox, MPC Germans and Japanese, and BMC WW 2 playsets.
All are affordable and readily available.
The BMC sets offer lots of value, with excellent K&C sculpted figures and lots of accessories.

With what you have and what I recommended, you should have quite a set up to play with.

Don't pass up the old-school green "army men", too. You can find them in a lot of places, from grocery stores to dollar stores.

Prost!

CTS (Classic Toy Soldiers) makes WWII figures Americans, Germans, Japanese, etc. to go with Marx.. They also made various vehicles (more detailed than Marx), etc.

The BMC Marines and Japanese from the "Iwo Jima" playset are excellent. The Sherman and AMTRAC are as well, and in "Real" 1/32 scale unlike the MARX/Airfix/CTS vehicles. The BMC "D-Day" Americans are poor, as well as the Germans in this set, but the Higgins Boat and Tiger II are once again, excellent, and in a "real" 1/32 scale, You can also find these figures bagged with header cards without accessories for a reasonable price.
