"Three up's" are commonly used for etching the tools for plastic injection moulds, including the newer 28mm wargames figures.

The master figures are sculpted two or more times the finished size and the injection mold is cut by a machine that can reduce the pattern to the required size. Plastic production is very different than metal casting. Here's a picture of some master castings to be used in making the molds for some Britains Eyes Right figures from the 1960s. The horses are 'test shots'- samples in plastic to check the mold's accuracy. They are 1/32, so you can see how large the metal masters are. Scary as it seems, Meier sculpts his 1/48 master figures at actual size! View attachment 140863 {eek3}
That has ruined my day.....Hats off to the man...he is truly an artist....most people including myself could not draw a face that small....this is truly an amazing world...Meier with his remarkable skill probably only make a couple of bob,yet some footballer..who is as thick as two bricks between the ears...makes millions of dollars...it is a strange world we live in....cheers TomB
