Hi Guys,
With the upcoming Apple TV seriesMasters of The Air’ about to launch I’ve been watching both of the trailers that have been released as well as other information and interviews relating to the production… It looks amazing!
Like some others I was a wee bit concerned that there were no actual flying B17s taking part in the production.
However from what I have seen so far of the Computer Generated Imagery is truly amazing without falling into the trap of ‘Star Wars’ or the lamentable ‘Pearl Harbor’ of a few years back.
Much as I enjoyed 1990s Memphis Belle where they actually had 5 live B17s (although one actually crashed and was destroyed) today, there are only 4 B17s still flying.
So the makers of the series had to seek other practical solutions which by the looks of the trailers… they achieved in spades!
At the same time I’ve also been looking at some of our own K&C U.S. Army Air Force figures that we released between 2009 and 2013 alongwith a few relevant vehicles.
With that in mind and the new TV series coming into view I think it’s about time to bring in some reinforcements.
On that cheerful note… adios for now and… bombs away!
All the best,

Andy

Andy,

By way of "reinforcements".....can we expect some new AF figures in the near future? This would be most welcomed!

Mark

Beautiful display, Robin. IMO the B-17 is a very visually pleasing aircraft.

Adding to Andy's theme......

The AF series had some great figures. I particularly liked the ground crew wearing baseball caps.

Looking forward to Masters of the Air!

Brendan

Just saw a doco called Ghost Swamp, 40 minutes long about the recovery of a B17 that was shot down in New Guinea and recovered a few years ago and is now housed at Pearl Harbour museum, a fitting place as this was the planes first mission when it ran into the surprise Japanese attack. Worth a watch. Robin.

Following on Andy’s theme as well, I love the K&C USAAF series and it’s very complete with the variety of aircrew and ground crew figures provided, let alone aircraft models. I currently have my K&C USAAF displayed with my Thomas Gunn B-26. They look right at home there, despite the fact the B-26 is a 9th AF aircraft 😉

Hi Guys,
Over this weekend I have had the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of ‘Masters of The Air’…Twice!
My initial impression is that the aerial and airfield scenes are superb considering the production only had just two ‘Replica B17s’ to work with plus one more static replica for all the interior filming.

All the CGI work is amazingly real and authentic looking too.

One of two small gripes though…Too many characters introduced at first with little character definition and equally confusing once they are airborne and wearing their face masks and trying to recognise who is who and perhaps what they are doing.

Second gripe…Why do the three RAF guys have to be the posh dummies who pick a fight with a large group of Yank flyers ..?
Anyway early days…Let’s watch some more as the weeks go by.
So far, pretty **** good but no ‘right in the pickle barrel’ just yet!

Bombs Away,
Andy.,

My thoughts on it as well- excellent start but way too many characters to kick things off.

Haven't seen the series yet, I don't get Apple TV :redface2: but can understand the confusion regarding characters wearing oxygen masks. But one of the things I liked about Band Of Brothers was the different NCOs and Officers portrayed in Easy Company. Had the feeling we were watching an entire unit and not just one officer and one NCO in the entire unit (see Hacksaw Ridge). Just my thoughts.

That wing span is something to look at. I think I might binge on all 9 episodes at once. Robin.

Looking forward to more US bomber crew figures. Would welcome RAF crew figures too!

the obvious great PC error in the wonderful program is the 332 Ftr grp,,,based in Italy with the 15th AF not in England,,

Getting able to do apple,,thanks to a young member of the family,,lol,,im knocked out by the series,,special effects have reached the point to do anything,,,I wish my father could have seen the show,,,48 missions,,b17 radio Op

Apparently, it's not an error. One of the Tuskegee airmen becomes lifeline friends with one of the bomber crew after they are interned in a German POW camp. I can't remember the names, but I do remember hearing this when Dan Snow was interviewing one of the writers or producers on his history podcast.

The 332 fighter group was part of the 15th Af,,not the 8th,,they were based in central italy not England,, fact checked,,,simply,,they escorted my fathers group along with the other 15th AF fighter groups ,,there is enough changing of history these days with out it being here, it appears that the red tailed mustangs in the up coming programs were part of the 8th inaccuratly,,also the aircrews in the program do not seem to be wearing 8th Af shoulder patches but plain Aforce
Flyers in german pow camps could easily been mixed,,,the 15th af bombed germany also,,romania,,hungary etc ,my fathers missions took in all of it,,
