Wow! that looks great Konrad. - Very nice choice for converting to glossy. Looking forward to see more of this project as it progresses. - Ken

Some members have seen my "A most generous gift" threat in the John Jenkins section of the forum, where I showed my glossed group of the 4th Regiment of Foot (Barrell's), which I did receive as a gift from fellow forum member aujj65.
In that threat I mentioned that included in the delivery was a mounted figure. I got that one done now in a glossy finish and would like to present it here.
It is the mounted Hessian Officer from the AWI series by King & Country.
A great figure for the lover of the Tricorn era and now a splendid "one of" piece in my collection.

Thanks again, Jeff, for the most generous gift :salute::

Sorry but I have yet to figure out how to get a good closeup pic of my toy soldiers

My old, basic Kodak digital camera has a close-up setting with the symbol of a flower while the alternative setting symbol is a mountain. Maybe your camera has something similar. I must admit that it has all kinds of other stuff which I just ignore, but the close-up setting really works well.

I am joining the chorus of those who said that the glossy figures look better than the original matte finishes. Much better! The matte now looks like it is an intermediate step in the painting process.

It was a pleasure Konrad. :smile2:

I have to agre with Mke about the finish, a coat of gloss has made so much difference especially to the depth of colours. ^&cool

What a stunner! Better than the original in my h. opinion. I see you are really enjoying these projects, Konrad, and they look like it!

Hi Konrad,

I want to add my voice to those who have already indicated the gloss treatment is a vast improvement for these finely crafted figures. As ucla1967 said, " The matte now looks like it is an intermediate step in the painting process." In my opinion, your gloss application work on these nice matte figures has elevated their appearance to a much higher level. Your work and, consequently, your collection is outstanding!

Thanks for posting these excellent photos. Please continue to show us these wonderful figures as you create them.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thank you for your comments, everyone. They are much appreciated :smile2:
And Paulo, you are right, I really do enjoy doing this work and the results.
My collection of figures, done by John Firth, has the unchallenged first place in my collection and will stay there forever :wink2:
But now, the different figures I am changing from the original matte to the gloss finish, are the next in line and have kicked out anything else I used to like.

One more to add.
This time it is a Britains figure again.
A WWI German Uhlan.

Konrad, I can't get over how much better these former matte figures look when they have been glossed. Really beautiful job. -- Al

These really do look terrific Konrad. Very nicely done. - Ken

Great job Konrad. They look great. I have some matte Sons Of Empire that I'll be glossing.

That uhaln is the best yet. I thinkt he gloss actually brings out the detail on this one!

I have been admiring the wonderful results of applying gloss to matt figures and was wondering if the reverse as been done by anyone, there are many great figures out there in a gloss finish that are not ideal for dios but done in a matt finish would open up more variety for their use in such, could anyone who has tried to apply matt over gloss please share with us the results and any suggestions.
Wayne.

Hi Wayne,

here are some thoughts on the "glossy to matte" idea.

If you are a collector, who enjoys setting up and building dioramas for "realistic" scenes, say with matte figures from Britains, King & Country, Collectors Showcase, Thomas Gunn, etc., you will find that most available glossy Toy Soldiers are significantly smaller.
The other thing is, that often the glossy Toy Soldiers are offered in much less animated poses than the majority of matte figures.
At last, the painting of glossy Toy Soldiers, in most cases is much simpler than on the matte ones, i.e. no shading, highlighting and such. Usually you will find them, just with plain straight colors applied.

So, unless you would want to set them up as background troops, so the perspective overall view would make up for their smaller size, it will be hard to incorporate them in a diorama.

The troops/figures I am converting from matte to gloss, are stand-alone groups, or troops that will have their battles on a glass shelf, not in a realistic setting.
I do enjoy having figures in the little more advanced painting style but still seeing the "shine" :smile2:

Konrad

I had the matte version of the K&C Sons Of Empire and glossed them myself. These are really beautiful soldiers. Hopefully K&C will be adding to this line.
