Matte to Glossy (2 Viewers)

Any suggestions as to the barrier varnish?

I always preferred glossy figures but like many of the series produced by makers of mat painted 58-60 mm figures.
So I do a good amount of overpainting on these figures and then gloss coat them.
I use Vallejo and also Foundry acrylic hobby paints. This is followed with a barrier coat of Vallejo Gloss Varnish (100% acrylic resin).
When all is completely dry, I'll brush on 1 or 2 coats of Tamiya X-22, for a very deep shine.

Back then it was after you showed your Jacobite Rebellion figures here on the forum, that I decided to gloss some of my matte stuff.
Well, you know how that went, when looking through this very thread ^&grin
It seemed that nothing was safe.

Your English Dragoon looks soooo good.
I want to get right back to it.

Maybe I do it, and I have a some figures in mind already.

Careful Konrad - It's a slippery slope ........ Although I do wonder how those great FL Prussian Cuirassiers you have might look all bright and shiny. :wink2:

Your JJD repaint of the Dragoon is simply gorgeous. If I am not mistaken, the horse was originally brown, then repainted to black and then glossed.

That's because it's glossy. A matte slope would give better traction. ^&grin
