Has anybody seen the matte trophy french lancers on ebay uk. It obviously does not look like anything trophy painted. But they are trophy castings. My question is where did they come from and can you buy the unpainted castings. They look strange in matte and don't seem to have that trophy magic. I would love to try painting my own in gloss though. Anybody know anything about these?

I don't know anything about these but a couple of years ago there were a few ACW figures in matte on eBay from Larry Simons of March Through Times. Last year at Chicago Larry told me that Len made these especially for him.

Well these are not larrys, some guy named johnny page is selling them. Maybe when martyn wakes up he will know more.. Brad what is the chance of finding any trophy figures in chicago this year. It has been pretty slim the last couple of shows.

Greg,

I was just using that to show that Len had done some. As far as finding Trophy in Chicago, the chances are slim and none and slim just left town ^&grin

See ya in a couple.

Brad

Didn't mean to offend you, i remember some civil war figures out there once.. Matte just doesn't seem to look eight on trophy. Where is my winning powerball ticket. I could buy the trophy molds and have len sculpt some new poses. French horsegrenadiers and kneeling french infantry as well as french line lancers to name a few. Well enough dreaming but maybe someday

By the way it will be great to see you in chicago, your'e great company. How many other trophy diehards will show up in chicago?

No offense taken whatsoever. Always enjoy seeing you too. Tom Dubel and Larry Lo are big Troohy nuts. I know Tom will be there. I like Trophy too. Hope to find some ACW and T & C but I'm not holding my breath.

Now that Andy has made the Jagdtiger, what's next on your list.

I know there was an option to buy Matte Trophy figures from Trophy/Maison Militaire. Damian has some lovely Egypt and The Sudan sets

These are the ones currently on Ebay UK

I am unfamiliar with Nap sets as I don’t collect that range, but I’m not sure about the finish to the bases. They are Trophy alright but the way the pegs for the horse’s legs are attached to the bases looks untidy. I have had a look at the Crimean and Boer War sets I have on display and the finish is much smoother with the pegs almost invisible.

I picked up 3 of the matte ACW sets in a trade with a mate of mine and they are very nice. Two of the sets I acquired are part of Big Box sets but the third one does not appear to have been released in a Gloss finish. They were indeed ordered specially by Larry at March Through Times

Ken Jackson has all the Trophy moulds and at the last contact I had with him the question of selling them came up and he told me he has no intention of parting with them, he will also not sell castings. In other words “Don’t hold your breath for any new Trophy sets appearing on the market any time soon”

As far as the lack of Trophy sets on the open market, I believe there are a couple of Forum members in the USA who tend to "hoover up" any Trophy collections as soon as they hear of them becoming available:wink2:

Cheers

Trophy did do some sets in Matt. I have quite a few Sudan sets in Matt. I think there are pictures in my photo alms of them. I also saw some Matt Napoleonic sets on eBay a while ago. I have not seen these lancers so cannot comment. Trophy is now quite hard to come by.

thanks for the detailed answer martyn, i just love trophy in gloss. I just recently was able to pick up a couple of lancers of berg and a real beautiful run boxer dragon gun

an opel mautier, brumbar, wirblewind or mobelwagen would be nice. Or andy could buy the trophy molds and produce the best gloss as well as matte figures ever made

Happy to help :salute::

These are the three ACW sets I have, the first two are more a Satin finish

I have never seen the last set of three figures in a Gloss finish

Doesn't Papa Z have some Zulus in a matte finish?

Scott I had a few sets that I got from Michael Miller that he put a matte finish to which I no longer have and for what it's worth they looked as good in mate as they did in gloss although I pefered my Throphy figures in gloss. Martyn I really like the satin finsh as well on the ACW sets you have....PapaZ/Joe

Many thanks Joe :salute::

I remember those Zulus, I think at least one or two were from the "Zulus at the Drift" set ZS28

Cheers mate
