Im torn about the ME262.. I don't like the fact that i can't remove the pilot. Anyway to cover it up, maybe put some "netting" on the cockpit? Thanks

Well you could buy 1/32 Me 262 model kit for £40.00 and have it as you like , that what I'm doing got myself a 1/32 TRUMPETER ME262 A-1A HEAVY ARMAMENT  come with under wing rockets:cool:

If you are careful and skillfull, you may be able to lift/pry the canopy off and gain access to the pilot. It can probably be removed with some effort. Try contacting KC before hand and ask about the pilot and how he is inserted/anchored. Maybe they can give you some advice. -- Al

You could even buy a 1/32 scale open canopy to swap over but I would not like to muck about with a $245.00 plane case it went wrong

No way... Im not gonna buy a kit, if i were good at kits, I wouldn't be buyin products that are already assembled and painted.. Im not even gonna attempt to open the canopy. What about the Camo Netting idea?

I tend to agree with leaving it as is. Way too much money to mess around with. -- Al

How about a tarp over the canopy? The Germans must have used them to protect the glass like we did. A tarp would hide everything inside the cockpit. -- Al

Tarp - that might work, where can i get one the proper size? Thanks.. Also i have seen some of netting placed over the planes, where can i get those? ME262 would look great in a late war forest scene in Bavaria! Thanks

You can make a tarp out of almost any material, a fine cloth cut to the correct size and painted the right color, for instance. Camo nets should be available from any of the scenery makers that Treefrog carries. -- Al

Camo netting a great idea  could do a great diorama with a Me 262 in hiding from Allies air power

Surely if the fact the pilot could not be removed was such a big factor then the question should have been to buy or not to buy ?

The question raised is a very good question and something that K&C should take into account for future releases of airplanes . Provide the pilot separately and leave the canopy open with the possibility to make a closed canopy version. The collector can then choose whether or not he puts the pilot inside the plane and leave the canopy open or closed.
guy:)

Not a bad idea, but sure to add to the overall price, with a seperate pilot. Probably an option that most people would like, though. -- Al

uksubs...

The trumpeter kit is awesome the detail is truly astonishing and you won't be dissapointed.

I have removed a pilot from a hurricane for a friend and it was a horrible job. The sides of the fusilage are so close and fragile I was very worried about breaking a section. It all worked out well though the glued figure needed work as did the paint and, the seat needed work.

Its really not a job I would want to do again or recommend anyone trying.

Aluminium foil is best and can be painted and moulded in place then, place camo netting over that or, you will still see the pilot. If its something K&C want to do they will continue to supply a pilot in the aircraft but, I would think its better and a bit cheaper to not have one. Pretty much seems to be a winner for many on here not to have a pilot
Mitch

Personally, I like the aircraft to have a pilot. Love my KC FW190 with the pilot. -- Al

I like having the pilot, also when parts are removable that means higher degree of lost and broken parts. If you are not 100% happy, I would sell it.
