Another addition to my collection, that I received last month, is Hiriart set No. 1269 BERSAGLIERI COLONIALE, 1896. While the majority of Hiriart's sets are marching, this is another in the growing list of sets where the figures are "in action."

Thanks Dave, I am glad that you like them. The variety is amazing, isn't it?

This is a Hiriart set in my collection which complements the previous 1890s colonial Bersaglieri set; it is set No. 1230 CAVALLERIA COLONIALE, ITALIA, 1891

That is an unusual fez, in that it is taller than those worn by other countries' native troops, Turks, or Egyptians . The French Senegalese also have a tall fez, but it is pinched in on the front and the back at the top. Hiriart's catalog essentially covers the second half of the 19th century up to modern times. There really isn't coverage of the American Revolutionary War, Seven Years War, Crimea, or the American Civil War. They also remind me of old WBritains which I believe inspired many of Hiriart's sets.

You are welcome.

Mike

Hi Mike - et al. Nice set indeed. I have a pic in my files of some Soldiers from that neck of the woods - one of which shows off that taller fez nicely - so thought I might post it here for all to see. jb

Thank you JB. Interesting colour plate. BTW, do you happen to know what RCTC stands for?

Mike

This Hiriart set representing Italian Colonial Troops from the inter-war years is set No. 1291 CORPI TRUPPE COLONIALI LIBYA 1929. This is the III Battaglione with red sashes, tassels, and flag. Hiriart has also made special commission sets of the VIII, XI, and X Battaglione each of which have different colored accoutrements. On a future order, I am ordering the I Battaglione which will have black accoutrements.

The tunics appear to fit your next set better Mike.

RCTC - stands for "Regio Corpo Truppe Coloniali" (Eritrea). - Which translates from Italian as "Royal Corps of Colonial Troops"

I originally collected the picture - because of the fearsome curved sword of the other guy!! I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of that!{eek3} jb

Mike,
Hi.
Do you have any photos of the room or rooms that hold your collection?
Thanks,
MikeNick

Here are some photos of my toy soldier room which use to be my son's bedroom. I am not permitted to display toy soldiers elsewhere in the house. I have more than 3,000 figures on display, but I have at least that many more not on display packed away in their individual boxes. The top five manufacturers on display are Trophy, Imperial, Frontline, Bastion, and Hiriart. I have mostly glossy, 54mm figures on display with the exception of matte Napoleonic, ACW, Zulu War, and WWII from Frontline.
