Bastion made some nice looking sets of figures - thanks for posting these Mike. :salute::

Jeff

Hi Mike, have to agree with Jeff ..... your Bastion sets are very nice. Forgive me if you have mentioned this in a previous post, but can I ask where Bastion toy soldiers were made and when they stopped production, thanks! :smile2:

Thanks Buster. Bastion Models were made by Andrew Rose in Great Britain, but I believe that he retired some years ago. The only dealer here in the U.S. that I was aware of who carried his line was Toy Troops in Huntington Beach, California. That was about in 1995 when the shop owner sold his store and moved to Singapore; the new owner did not continue to carry the line. I had an opportunity to buy all of his Bastion inventory at the West Coaster, but not being as smart then as I am now in these regards, I foolishly declined. If I remember correctly, he ultimately was "giving" them away at $25 per set. I am still paying for that lack of foresight as I continue to buy these sets at today's prices. Live and learn.

This is Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set No. B.8 FRENCH SAILORS, 1900. These Fusilier Marins from the cruiser D'Entre Casteaux defended both the French Legation and the Pei T'ang Cathedral in Peiking. For shore duty, these sailors usually wore canvas leggings.

Thanks for the info Mike, maybe I should think about getting my eyes examined since I missed the words "Great Britain" plain as day on the box lid ..... Doh!:rolleyes2: It's a shame to have to lose great cottage toy soldier makers like Bastion, Trophy, etc, but I suppose it's inevitable as most are just one man operations and they have to hang it up at some point.

Yes, it is a shame, but, as you say, it is inevitable. Luckily, those of us who like glossy toy soldiers still have cottage toy soldier makers Hiriart, Hocker, and Beau Gest which are still going strong.

This is Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set No. B.18 ROYAL NAVY, 1900, where the figures are wearing their shore party uniforms including sennet hats and leggings.

This is another Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set: No. B.6 JAPANESE INFANTRY, 1900. The Japanese contributed two Divisions to the campaign and, as such, had the largest contingent among the Allied Forces. This is also the same uniform worn by the Japanese during the Russo-Japanese War in 1904. About a month ago, this set sold on eBay at a buy-it-now price of $250, which is the highest price I can recall for a Bastion set.

This is Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set No. B.7 AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN SAILORS, 1900. The only Austro-Hungarian forces to serve in China were about 400 sailors from the Austro-Hungarian squadron of warships like these from the cruiser Zenta.

Dear Cem,

I hope you aren't really jealous of my collection; I am only trying to share it with Forum members. I know how much I enjoy seeing other collector's collections.

I don't make toy soldiers of any kind; I only buy already factory painted and boxed, if possible, toy soldier sets. Bastion Models did make two different sets of Turkish soldiers that I am aware of: A.33 TURKISH INFANTRY FIRING, 1915 and A.34 TURKISH INFANTRY AT THE READY, 1915. I do have an extra boxed set of A.33, but not A.34. I also have a related extra boxed set of their nemesis A.31 AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY STANDING FIRING, 1915. I have attached a stock photo of set A.33. If you are interested, please email me at matara42@roadrunner.com. Thanks.

Mike

This is Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set B.9 GERMAN SAILORS, 1900. German sailors from the East Asia Squadron protected the German Legation and formed part of the Relief Column.

This is Bastion Models Boxer Rebellion set No. B.1 U.S. MARINES, 1900. The U.S. Legation was protected by Marines from the battleship Oregon and the cruiser Newark. They are equipped as those fighting in Cuba and the Philippines. This set also sold recently on eBay at a buy-it-now price of $250 which makes it, along with the Japanese Infantry, the highest price that I am aware of for a Bastion set.

I posted these photos a while back in another thread, but here is my Bastion Models set No. A.18 BELGIAN INFANTRY 1914. These antiquated uniforms soon gave way to more modern khaki uniforms very similar to their French allies.

I recently picked up on eBay 12 unboxed Frontline Figures glossies from their Parade Dress series. These are the Austrian Hoch und Deutschmeister Regiment. I have added six additional figures from an earlier purchase. Not shown is their colour party which I had previously posted here. The Frontline glossies bear a striking resemblance to King & Country's early glossies which is to be expected since the late Howard Swales sculpted both.

Dave,

I have an old, undated catalog from Stockade Miniatures in Pennsylvania which shows 61 Soldiers of the World WWI Indian Army 1914 sets. It says that these sets are available as eyes forward or eyes right. The catalog is so old that it doesn't mention a web site, but does have a phone number 717-424-1972. The owners are Mike and Norene Rosso. The list price was $84 per set at that time.

Stockade Miniatures is located in Stroudsburg, PA; their web site is www.stockade-miniatures.com. Those Indian Army sets now cost $132!
The SoW sets are the best Indian Army sets on the market, IMO. I have several of the lancer mounted regiment sets and they are very finely finished in a high gloss and are very colorful. SoW makes a large variety of TS and I think many are available either as gloss or matte as per the buyers request. -- Al

Hi Mike,

I took a look and am impressed with their selection and the number of unit available. I am now going to have to try and budget a fairly long series of purchases to fill in gaps in my Durbar Infantry Brigade display. I know they are 10 years later but for the most part the uniforms didn't change too much in that time and for my purposes I want a grouping of large massed Brigades to represent the units on the parade field in 1903. Also looked at the Cavalry units and saw several I need. Now I just have to hope I can keep up with this company and Marlborough...{sm2}
