Mike Tarantino's Toy Soldier Collection (5 Viewers)

Hi Mike,

The Imperial Cadets are lovely! It is on my list to get along with the Tiger Hunting sets. Always enjoy opening this thread to see what you have picked up. Thanks for sharing.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks, I am glad you like it. I post photos of my Hiriart shipments so that those of you who like seeing this sort of thing can at least get a vicarious experience. I didn't know you had a list.

Mike

I second that. The Imperial Cadets is a really sharp looking set. Great color combo. -- Al

Thanks Al, I am glad you like them. Bob has all of the Hiriart British India sets in his collection, but I am catching up with him and Damian is not far behind.

Mike

This is a Hiriart non-catalog set that was included in the new shipment for me: 60TH RIFLES, EGYPT. As I mentioned in the Hiriart forum, I really like the Maltese cross details on their helmets and their pack packs.

The Hungarian troops is rather a unique set.

Yes, it is. I am not aware of any recent examples from other manufacturers although Authenticast made them decades ago. A couple of years ago, I started commissioning Hiriart to make me sets of some of the secondary World War II belligerents, especially those on the Eastern Front. I started with the Finns, then the Poles (Infantry and Lancers), followed by Hungarians, and Slovaks. My 2015 order includes Romanian Infantry and my 2016 order will include Dutch Infantry. The Italian Savoia Cavalry Regiment, which fought on the Eastern Front, is on the 2017 order. Also on the 2017 order will be three versions of the Czech Skoda LT vz 35 Tank which was used by three countries: As the LT vz 35 in Slovak service, the Panzer 35(t) in German service, and the R-2 in Romanian service. Each will have different paint schemes.

I also received Hiriart set 1207 ANSALDO L3/33 ITALIAN TANKETTE, desert version. I have ordered the desert version twice now, both times asking that the figures are wearing pith helmets as in set 1198 Cacciatori d'Africa, Addis Ababa and the crewman with an Italian tankers leather helmet. The first time I got neither, they were all wearing steel helmets except for the officer. This time, at least, I got the leather helmet. Maybe the third time will be a charm.

This month's additions also included a special Hiriart double set 1100 CAMERON REGIMENT COLONIAL with an officer, 2 flags, 3 pipers, and 12 men. The standard catalog set includes an officer, piper, and 7 men. I really like the expanded set which will make a great display especially when combined with the new 19-figure band which I also received.

At our Saturday show and tell and set distribution at Bob's house, I had ordered an extra double set of the Camerons Colonial for resale which he immediately picked up along with the companion 19-figure Cameron Colonial Band. I'll post photos of the band later. He also picked up the resale set of the 60th Rifles photos of which I had posted on this thread on October 9th. In addition, Gary picked up the resale set of the Natal Carabineers posted on October 16th.
