May as well start the thread for next season. The Hot Stove League is cooking. Noah Syndergaard to the Angels on a 1-year, $21 million deal. Good move for the Angels but wonder why the Mets let him go unless they know something about his health. -- Al

Good riddance and get the heck out. Just a week ago he’s tweeting about how he loves the Mets and NY.

ERod signs a five year deal with the Tigers for 80 million...............................so we lose our #5 starter.

M'eh.

Good luck in Detroit ERod, thanks for..........................well then there was.........................or the time you.........................

He was here 6 years and was thoroughly mediocre.

Detroit is a black hole for pitchers. Nats Jordan Zimmermann signed a 5 year deal with them, taking a 70-50, 3.32 ERA with him and promptly fell off a cliff and disappeared. Went 25-41 with a 5.63 ERA in his 5 years and then retired. Good luck, ERod. -- Al

As always, money trumps loyalty and love. A team hangs with you, taking care of you, rehabbing you, so why resign with them?:rolleyes2: -- Al

Re: MLB 2022

I can't believe Kapler got the NL Manager of the Year.

Manager of the year has nothing to do with playoff performance............Kapler/Giants had the most wins in the regular season in the NL, Cash/Tampa had the most wins in the AL.

If the award was based on a managers entire body of work including playoffs, it should have gone to Cora and the Braves manager........how Cora got that flawed RS team to within 2 wins of a trip to the WS is mind boggling, how the Braves manager won a WS with that team that stunk on ice most of the year, got hot at the right time and knocked off three teams that were clearly better than them is beyond mind boggling.

We Phillies fans were not impressed with Kapler during his brief tenure here. He was too wedded to analytics. Now, analyzing data is something that managers have done since the beginning of the game. But they did it in their heads, and it was more something that informed their intuition and judgment. But people like Kapler use analytics the way the Big Bad Wolf used the nursery rhyme book in the Warner Bros. cartoons. "I can't blow the brick house down! It says so, right here in the book!" Analytics tend to narrow their thinking. "Uh-oh! AWS says Nola has reached his pitch count-gotta take him out now! Gotta do like the computer says!" Kapler might grow out of it, but I don't think so.

I agree, Snitker deserved it.

Maybe tucked away in his data, somewhere in the cloud, Kapler has incriminating photos of someone...

Prost!

I am always torn on MLB awards.

Part of me feels like the MVP should go to the guy that helps win the World Series, then again that usually turns out to be some no name that batted .190 in the regular season but somehow bats .400 in the playoffs never to be heard from again.

Scherzer! Scherzer! What a day! Woweeeeee!
Holy crap! Scherzer gets $130 mil for 3 years with the Mets. Scherzer and deGrom on the same staff makes for a tough hill to climb for the rest of the NL East. Nats are rebuilding and are now also-rans for 2022. Russo just showed a chart which puts the Mets at the top of the list for 2022 payroll after their signings the last few days. Come on, Opening Day. Can't wait to see how this will all shake out. Wishing the Mets and Scherzer all luck (except against the Nats), as they have gone all-in to unseat the Braves and pass the Phillies. The Hot Stove is burning up the house ahead of the expiring CBA. Glued to the set to see what happens next... {eek3} -- Al

Just crazy money but one of the best days Mets have had in awhile snd I don’t think they’re done yet.

I don’t take sides in the billionaires vs. millionaires debate but the key to the lockout seems to be the need for the owners to share more of their profits.

Great, all I hear about is contract after contract that sounds like Powerball winnings and there isn’t enough spending?

Wait, what?

I see Buck Showalter is one of three finalists for the Mets managerial position. He's a good one. Hope he gets it. -- Al

He’s the favorite and no offense to the other two but he’s what they need. Rojas didn’t really have control of the clubhouse; the players ran roughshod over him. That won’t happen with Buck.

Great post, Showalter is the right choice.

Nats have a verbal agreement to sign Elian Soto, Juan Soto's 16 year old brother. Can't legally sign until Jan. 2023 and a lot can happen between now and his chances of making the majors, but it would be a neat line-up if the Nats had Soto 1 and Soto 2 in the field. -- Al
